Really good stuff. Did an entire boat interior with it. Just did a truck bed. Comes in rough or smooth coat. 1 gallon will cover about 60 sq ft with 2 coats. Has about a 45 minute working time with a 4 inch roller (special roller, a standard paint type nap won't work), use a brush for holes, indentations, corners, etc. Can use thru a wide nozzle paint gun but needs to be thinned with xylene only. Just mask off what you don't want to cover (like painting) a go for it. If you use the rough coat, how well you apply it doesn't really mean much. The smooth coat is very user friendly, but practice with it a little first. It won't run as fast as paint. It is a little pricey. between 90 and 125 dollars a gallon, so plan well first and measure...

After reading PKemps post made me remember something. If you do a color other than black, make sure you get enough to do the whole job. I did some on the interior of my Jeep, then decided to do some more. The second can of blue I ordered later did not really match the first can, so I'd say you want yours to all come out of the same batch. But thats been a few years ago and they may have fixed that by now. Ohterwise I was very happy with it.

Your still correct..... times haven't changed much... . the color problem still exists. So measure and plan before you order so that you get all you need from one batch. Ordering more later will result in a slight color mismatch. Also you can increase the thickness of the coating simply by applying more coats. I did the truck bed in 7 coats out to 1/4 inch thickness. Slip resistant, scratch and cut proof, UV resistant and impervious to chemicals. I'm thinking about doing my entire 9500 dually in the dark red. Its very close to the dodge claret red the truck came in. This is like putting armor on your truck. Forget about rust after that, and it helps deaden the sound a lot. If you do it in the smooth coat you really have to get close to tell its not paint. For a shine? use armor-all... :D

How's this stuff holding up after a while? I have some rust repair to do to my rockers and I think I'm gonna do this from the moulding down. Anyone have results after a few years of stone and salt poundings?

I've heard good things about Durabak. I personally have not used it, I use Herculiner.

I did the tub of my Rubicon with the Herc over a year ago and it has held up flawlessly. I will be doing the bed of my truck soon.

A friend of mine used Durabak on his Jeep and another friend used Herculiner on her Jeep. Applied the same day, when they dried you could not tell who used which product.

The only benefit the Durabak would have over the Herculiner is that it's UV resistant. Herculiner does offer a Topcoat that will provide UV protection.

Smooth Durabak

I used the smooth type to do my frontal area, below the stip[ on sides, rear bumper and the plastic "stuff" on tailgate. It is very easy to put on. Used a medium grit sanding sponge first on the paint. They supply a special roller, however I used an adhesive roller (short nap) and made it smooth. It is the dark grey and looks good with the dk green soon to be ferd rashberry.

I have herculiner in the bed of my 74. It has lasted ok, considering the abuse. I only did 2 coats.

Im fixin to do a whole truck in durabak. everything will be coated. Ill let you know how it goes.

My truck is gettin a total make over in the spring, time for new door and tailgate, cab corner and rocker. Gonna change the color to all black, no badges. I got my info pack from durabak yesterday including samples, probably gonna use it on my rockers when I tear the old girl apart.

Sounds like you plan to paint the whole truck with Durabak? What are you going to do about the oxidation?

My 95, 3500 had its bed done in charcoal gray Durabak 10 years ago. Its still charcoal gray, no noticable oxidation, wears like iron and has had a lot of crap spilled in it and a lot of abuse over those 10 years. You couldn't tell today that its that old. I did my son-in-laws 57 Olds' entire floor pan, trunk, wheel wells and complete underbody in black 6 years ago with a wide nozel spray gun. Not a speck of rust anywhere. Still wearing like armor plate and makes this old restored car very quiet. I also did a complete set of the walking surface of 12 concrete steps in light gray 2 years ago. Still there, slip resistant, even when wet and seals the concrete from moisture damage. My buddy did and entire jeep wrangler in Dark Green and Black last winter. Looks pretty cool actually. Its a hunting truck. All he does now is open the doors and hose it out. Doesn't even think about scrapes and scratches from tree limbs anymore. Wipes it down once a month with armour-all. :D

Is your bed still bright and shiny?

Good stuff but you need to do the prep work per the instructions. I did the bed in Jeep, came out real well but I had some leftover and did some spots I hadn't prepped other that hosing it off and those spots have had the coating come off over the years.
