Bad Clear Coat??

Next Cummins for the Dodge

I believe it is 5 year/100,000 miles like the Dodge/Cummins and the Ford/Powerchoke. I believe I read this in a magazine and on the Chevy Website, they have a website dedicated to just their silverado line which is accessable by going to the Chevy website

Early pr & media releases regarding engine longevity for the Duramax stated that GM anticipated that the engine would last at least 200,000 miles. That's a lot shorter life span than the 400k or so most of us anticipate before having to put some serious money into our B series engines. For us snowplowers it's a given that the engine will outlast the rest of the drivetrain. From personal experience, the Dodge frames and trannys are much stronger components than those in the GM vehicles, and we've tried them all. Frame failures in 1 ton GM trucks and having to keep spare trannys just to make it through the winter - - not fun! Of course these failures associated with snowplowing. Can't speak to towing or load issues.

The 200,000 to overhaul is what causes the Cheb to be rated as a "Light Heavy Duty" engine. The 400,000 mile rating is the "Medium Heavy Duty".

The Cummins still has the best engine warranty in the industry. The new Isuzu has a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty but there is a catch. After the 3 year/36,000 mile portion of the warranty expires there is a 100 dollar deductable per visit on any engine related problems.

The Ford Powerstroke has the same 100 dollar deductable per visit after the 3/36 is up as well.

The Allison transmission warranty is 3/36 also. I would of thought with a name like Allison, GM could of done better than this considering the extra money it costs for the Allison option. There transmission warranty is not any better than the Dodge.

Bottom line is the Dodge/Cummins has the best warranty of the big three.
