Diesel fuel storage and condensation

Great, now the suburban's are completely useless as reliable tow rigs :-laf Wonder why they didn't contract a few Cummins engines for a private conversion option since GM doesn't support the Duramax in the suburbans, that would be a great rig then.

The site says they're installing bodylifts on their conversions, can't understand what the purpose of the that is, maybe they can't fit the bellhousing under the cab or something?. . I could have sworn the cabs were identical in that regard, maybe a difference in the Duramax frame dimensions or something?

I guess it would be a good substitute for a HumVee now that GM has ruined yet another product line and cancelling the H-1 for anything but DOD contracts. I'm still not buying anything made in Mexico, so most of GM is not of interest to our family :( Canadian models are fine, but its a real hit or miss looking for them on the lots from what I've seen.

www.thedieselpage.com had a duramaxipad suburban last year that some guy built from parts purchased separately from GM. The lift is required because the floor is too low there the allison trans is mounted. While to some, this vehicle may be useless, on the bright side is it is probably better than the 6. 5 diesel suburban that my wife drives.

I would rather have a diesel excursion with a cummins.

AH, and the voice of reason speaks :D

I figured it would have to be the Floorpan/ Bellhousing transmission issue if it was a actual fitment problem. Too bad, a body lift on that heavy of a rig is scary to me.

GM will never see my money again, especially if its using their diesel V-8's of any generation retrofitted into something they know better than to put it in.

I have stayed away from the H-1's since they are still running the GM diesels in them. If I could find a H-1 with a typical blown motor/bad transmission, I might consider putting a cummins into with with an Allison maybe, but that's the closest I'll get to a bow tie again. At least Diaper Chrysler knows the Cummins engine is what's saving their butts and they are leaving it as is.

Anyone aware of the Duramax being installed in the new Suburbans? Looks like the 07 engine bay has plenty of room now.

That's funny! They had to lift mine to get the Cummins in - all that work, might as well do it right...

HMMmmmm - dunno, but lately, seems the GM stuff is really getting their share of the trophies at the dyno days and sled pulls in the appropriate classes. For my part, if I needed a Surburban-class vehicle, I'd shed no tears over having to drive a Duramax GM... :-laf

Brand loyaly is fine - until it starts fogging up judgement and common sense - no offense intended! I'll NEVER make a rapid and unfounded judgement on ANY vehicle simply because of the brand nameplate it wears! ;)

To each his own, but I'm totally satisfied with my own "Mexican built", taco-bender '02 Dodge - can't say I'm any more/less in love with our northern neighbors than those from the south... ;) :D

YMMV

Dyno's mean nothing to me. The only thing that matters to me is longevity and faith in a vehicle. GM's diesel engine options are where my doubts are at. I have yet to se GM's diesel's improve enough to not be outdone by Navistar or Cummins. GM has some nice vehicles still, but I'm only interested in buying diesels from this point on. Gas rigs are just not exciting to me anymore. Without a respectable diesel option, what good will GM do me with this in mind?. . It's not brand loyalty, I'm just not looking to get burned after the track record GM has had in the black smoke history area.

2007 model year suburbans with a factory optioned diesel is doubtful. most manufacturers are already running with their tails between their legs over the 2007 emissions requirements. How many Diesel models are there going to be in 2007 in passenger and light trucks?. . Not many from what I've been hearing so far.
