I just saw the most "dweebish" setup. Unfortunately it was one of our fellow drivers of a dodge cummins 3500. This was a SRW 1998?? 3500 with a large slide in camper. It came from the factory with dual rear wheels. But the owner thinking that that full size slide in camper did not actually load his truck took off the inner tires. Looks like training wheels. It is a real shame when someone buys a 35,000$ truck and cannot afford new tires or the extra bridge toll that was part of the deal when he bought it. I would not post anything if he was running empty. But this one is running dangerous. I sure hope he has a good insurance company and good lawyer. If he ever rear ends someone the insurance compannies may just look at his setup and say "no mas" go aheat and take his house.

Amazing. Seems stupidity is becoming more common place lately.

Contact Webster's and donate his picture to place next to "stupid"

I see the outer wheels taken off all the time, but only a few times have I seen the inner ones off. I think it is a cost issue for some. It's still not a safe thing to do.

Ruined duallys

Sometimes I will see some guys who have taken a gasser dually (always chebby) and remove the dual wheels to install a reeeeealy wide wheel on each side. Then, they lower the thing with drop spindles and under-pinned leafs. Totally defeating the purpose of having a 1 ton. My perception I guess, but to me, it looks like CRAP.

I'll have to agree with you there me4osu:rolleyes: We have a couple of guys around here that has done that to theyre 1 tons. One is even purple:eek:

It's a waste of a truck when people goes and does that in my book.

Actually, I'm looking for a wheel for that exact purpose. But, it would only be used for a drag slick. :D :D

Now there's a term I haven't heard in a looooong time.

And don't forget to mind the gozoutas. Some locations have laws proscribing tires extending beyond the fender. Of course this isn't a problem on the track!

Jethro was telling Uncle Jed about his new found skills in mathmatics.

examples of GOZINTAS

4 GOZINTA 12 3 times

3 GOZINTA 6 2 times... ... etc ;)

I did a single conversion on my 'ol '81 D350 Dually. The reason was bridge tolls. At the time it was $4 for a car or single wheel truck, $8 for a dually- no matter the GVW. If you towed a 2 axle trailer, it was $8 for a single and $16 for a dually! This really added up!

Here is how I did it; I took a pair of stock steel 16x6 wheels and brought them to a local custom wheel place and had 4" added to the outside only. For a tire I used a BFG All terrain 33X12. 50 in load range D. It looked great and not everyone noticed- especially the toll takers. I had to make them look and they usually did a doubletake! I towed a 5K car trailer for lots o' miles without hardly a problem.

That is a little different than just unbolting things from your truck to save a toll. You went with a "super single" setup like some of the heavy truck manufacturers are doing. When you more or less center the tire patch where it used to be with the dual setup ( between patches) and use a larger tire I think that is a nice setup. When the '04's come out I may be ordering a SRW 3500. Dodge would have already put the right tire (load range)on it for the load. After all they are not ford -putting "P" rated tires on a truck with minimum inflation so they could squeak through a rollover test. Then blame the tire maker for thier own compromise.
