Good news for Dodge & Cummins

Hey guys, I was talking to my brother today, he wanted me to post a question for him. He accidentally put about 15 gallons of our dyed farm diesel in his 2001 Duramax. I told him not to worry about hurting the truck, but I would check to make sure with you guys. I'm assuming I am correct that it won't hurt his truck, I don't know a whole bunch about Duramax's yet. Thanks in advance, andy

Will not hurt a bit, The only difference is the color and Off-road fuel has a little more sulfur in it. I used to run nothing but off road and I never had any problems

No I don't see there being any problem with the dyed fuel. If anything it may be better for it. :D Just fuel up with non dyed fuel and your good to go. The only difference in the dyed fuel and non dyed fuel in non has less sulfur and more taxes. Tell him not to worry bought.

It won't hurt his truck, but it could hurt his pocket book. Tell him avoid going to any farm auctions or stock yards for a couple of months.

These are popular places for the IRS to check for red fuel in farm trucks.

It probably won't hurt the truck. What was posted above is slightly inaccurate. Usually offroad diesel comes in two grades - low sulfur and high sulfur. The low sulfur(more common) is the identical diesel with red dye and no road tax. High sulfur is just that, a much higher limit and content of sulfur. While the high sulfur fuel will have slightly more BTU's (and mpg), the sulfur could possibly damage parts of the engine, particularly emissions equipment if dmaxes have any. Most likely though, it's low sulfur and you're good to go, assuming no DOT officers stop you and ask to test your fuel;)

I think your input is what he wanted to hear. We don't run the high sulfur dyed diesel on the farm. We've actually been running FS SoyGold with pretty good results. As for the DOT, we generally take my truck to town for fun anyway. His is pretty quick, but doesn't put on quite the show for all the Powerstrokes around here (I live in 7. 3 country  ).

Too bad they don't have a bottle of liquid sulfur fuel additive to get! Man, that would be great!!!!! think about it! Having the equivalent of red diesel without the dye!!!!

Chris, the sulfur doesn't do anything for performance at all, it just goes out the tailpipe.

It's the side effects of removing the sulfur that causes the problem, namely lubricity is removed with the sulfur. Refiners have compensated for this by adding back lubricity so the only difference between high and low sulfur fuel is the amount of emissions.

Only reason for high sulfur ag fuel is that it's cheaper to produce which is in turn cheaper for the consumer.

In my area high sulfur isn't availible, the red fuel is exactly the same as the taxable except for the dye.
