(93W-250) Truck is dying off after 2400 rpm. Pulls good up to this point. I need a new breakover spring and throttle bushing kit. Could either of these 2 things have anything to do with my problem. Thanks in advance, Alex

Yup! With a broke break, brake broke, with a bad spring, the cable pulls but you lose shaft travel. That may be the whole problem, I replaced mine this summer, about $15.

A tip for your throttle travel.

You need to have someone in the cab and slow operate the pedel to the floor. Look at the travel of the pump lever. The more the better. Do whatever you need to do to obatain more travel. It requires modifications in several areas of the linkage.

The break-over spring is the coil spring directly on top of the injection pump throttle lever. There are two levers there. The upper lever imparts motion onto the coil spring which in turn imparts motion onto the lower lever. The spring serves as a shock absorber.

The upper lever, via the coil spring, wears into the lower lever and throttle motion is lost, however ... . There is a ton of throttle motion to be gained through modification of the ENTIRE linkage system. A 1/16th inch of play is not detrimental unless your running the 1/4 mile time. Inwhich case you need 110% throttle travel.

Look at your spring. It will be 1/2 worn through as well as the post on the LOWER throttle lever. Weld the post (off the pump :-laf ) and replace the break-over spring.

When I replaced mine I remember seeing a post Mysteryman had on placing a piece of brake line over the worn post. I am not much for brazing so I thought about the tubing. Any thoughts from the 1st Gen crowd on that one?

worn breakover spring and post

Mine was worn exactly like Greenleaf said. Still usable, but lost some throttle travel. I slid on one of those metal splice/butt connectors for #18-22 ga. wire without the insulation on it and it works great!
