Ran by the auto parts store the other day to pick up some parts and picked up thier catalog. Inside I saw that the had a tool

by Ferret, a Diesel Pulse sensor. You hook the piezo probe

around the #1 fuel line and the test box has a inductive loop

for a timming light hook-up. So you establish TDC on #1

cylinder and degree your harmonic balancer... presto... you can

now adjust your fuel timing without the hastle of the dial

guages and the tedious fiddling other mess. Tool is on sale at NAPA for $189. 00.

Is this a no brainer or what... ... ...

POWER WAGON tell me if I'm wrong... ...

There are no timing marks on the dampner, no pointers

There are also no published timing specs for the engine.

I don't see it as much of a help. There's also a matter of the offset, where the injection lags behind the pulse - and not knowing precisely what that is for this engine.

If someone has worked out all these issues, then its fine, just make sure you know what're getting before you plunk down your hard earned cabbage leaves.

Once you go through the work of establishing your true TDC postion, and have the pump timed accurately on the test stand, then moving it ahead or behind, relative to the original setting is a 10 minute or less procedure.

It might be nice to know how many degrees you move, and stuff... Just not sure if it's worth it.

But, like I said, that's just my take on it... Someone else might have better opinions... :)
