Cummins has been offering a free Dyno run this year. I took the truck to Cummins Southeastern Power in Jacksonville this past Friday afternoon. They don't do much for free, but it told me what I wanted to know. Here are the numbers. The first three are in 5th gear, the last three are in fourth gear. Sorry the columns don't line up better than this.

RPM HP MPH SLIP

0 226 78 0

0 237 74 0

0 236 68 0

0 222 63 0

0 241 54 0

0 236 50 0

That truck is loud at 80 mph. Also a bit warmer with no airflow. Engine temp went up to 210-215. EGT's were a bit over 900 degrees. My ABS and Brake light came on during the second run, but went off as soon as I drove the truck up the road. The specs for my truck are in the signature. The only thing that has changed is the motor oil. I'm running Rotella instead of Amsoil. I have 105,237 miles on the motor.

I have no idea how accurate those numbers are. I've never seen dyno numbers on a truck BOMB'ed similar to mine. I also don't know how accurate or good this particular dyno was.

Dyno #'s

They also seem a bit low to me too. My stock 99 on Piers Dyno at DynoMania 2003 turned 200. 6. Of course all Dynos read different. My brothers 02 HO turned 339 with an EZ and 275's with Rip Rooks 4" exhaust.

To me this just confirms what everyone says, theres no 2 dynos that read the same.

Pardon my ignorance, as it were, but is there a particular way one should run the truck on a dyno? Are there any specific procedures to follow while running on the dyno?

low numbers

Those numbers seem a bit low to me as well - I peaked at 292 Hp. with old VA box, and 275 injectors. I don't see the rpm listed - did you get to 2600 rpm?

Dsteinel - I think all Cummins dealers are doing it.

Ray - He put the truck into fifth and ran it almost to redline and held it there. Same thing for fourth. It didn't list any RPM numbers. They didn't do much with the free test. I guess you have to pay for all of the other stuff they would do... whatever all that other stuff is.

It's possible this guy didn't know what he was doing, or the equipment was faulty. I suppose the problem could be with the truck somewhere as well. I know it runs good, get's good fuel mileage, pulls the snot out of my 5'ver and I can still run a steady 28 psi of boost on a big grade, pulling the 5'ver.
