Competition afc /gov springs does it hurt hp?

Competition Cummins and Banks go racing - 210 mph Dakota

I have seen discussion on the different type of dyno's, I have found a guy in Wichita Ks. with a Dyno Jet dyno, will this dyno be as accurate as any other ? Or does one brand of dyno measure H/P & Torque better than others?

Brett

Dynojet gives very reproducible numbers so you can verify if a change helped. Tires don't have the traction problems often seen with other dynos. Other dyno's have a lot of trouble giving decent readings on the higher hp Rams. The only shortcoming of the Dynojet with our diesels is that the turbo doesn't spool up instantly so peak torque may read low with the short run duration (often 4-6 seconds). Overall I much prefer Dynojet to the other brands. I have run my Ram about 300 times on Dynojets.

I've only been on the dyno once, but the Superflow is what we used. And a good thing too. Other wise I wouldn't be able to compete with the wastegated units and I don't care about how fast I make power. There aren't too many hills around here that go from flat to vertical in 0. 2 seconds LOL... THe Superflow was good enough for the 400 hp of Scottys machine...

LOL Lil' Dog

Hey Lil Dog, you flatlanders wanna rent some hills?? :p :p

You need to drop on by here in BC and try some of ours. One section of highway is about 8-9% for 15 Kms. Really good test of your pyro. ;)

Sorry, couldn't help taking a shot. .

BTW, POD's are going in on Tues along with a pump timing job at PDR.

One other thing to remember. They dyno numbers are only as accurate as the driver.

I've seen some dyno operators that have no clue what they are doing... . but then there are others like Diesel Dynamics that really know their stuff...

So just keep that in mind. .

Lawrence Bolton of Diesel Dynamics has probably done more dyno work, including R&D, than anyone else. He used to keep a log of his dyno runs, but quit several years ago. He estimates conservatively over 100,000 runs. He put over 20,000 miles on one R&D truck all on the dyno since quitting the log book, for example.

The Dynojet is pretty easy to operate. However, Lawrence' expertise becomes valuable in interpreting data, the significance of changes in hp numbers, and in doing specialized stuff like coastdown runs.
