Cummins mistaken for Power Joke!?!

Going to get the truck Dyno'ed next week at a shop that does alot of diesel's.

This is my first time, is there anything I should know going in? What they will do,what not to let them do... etc They want $100,is that about the going rate?

Thanks,

Adam

Seems a little on the high side, but not too far out there. Hopefully, if they do a lot of diesels as you say, they will have the optical rpm pickup for a tach/torque reading.

If you have a manual trans, <400rwhp, make sure they dyno in 4th gear (5-speed) or 5th gear (6-speed). If you are over 400rwhp, dyno in high gear (overdrive).

With an auto trans, make sure they dyno it in OD, with the converter locked. Pretty simple other than those basics.

If it's an inertial dyno (e. g. , Dynojet 246C), keep this in mind. I made 4 pulls, 2 in 5th gear (1:1) and 2 in 6th gear (OD). The 5th gear pulls averaged 325/650. The 6th gear pulls gave 347/762. This is because running in OD tricks the engine into thinking the dyno rollers have more inertia than they really do - this loads the engine more and helps the turbo spool faster and harder.

For the above, I paid $60. 00, and the shop did have the optical engine speed pickup to calculate torque.
