Competition The Ultimate Diesel Drag Racing Engine

Hello,

I want to make a dyno run with the truck in my sig, my problem is I have to watch the egt gauge because it gets rather warm rather quickly with the stock turbo. With box on level 5 I can only run to 60 from a stop before the egt's get to 1250. My question is can I even get a good run on the dyno or will I have to let off the throttle to much?

Thanks in advance,

Justin, I would not worry about EGT's on the rollers. In most cases, the run will be over in a matter of seconds. Many many trucks exceed 1250 degrees on the strip. You just don't want to stay there long.

Good luck on your run...

Thanks for the quick reply, I didn't want to waste my money if I couldn't go full power. Anyone have any estimates on what the power should be from this set up?

IMHO- 350 -390h. p. and alot of smoke.

I am going to go tonight to see when I can get on the dyno. Air flow is going to be my next bomb. I just want to make sure I get a turbo that will allow me to step up the injectors (2. 4's) at a later date.

I will keep you informed.

1250* ??

heck I saw 1750* on the last run in my signature

but like many have said, It was a total of 5. 91 seconds for the whole run, and I did not get to 1500* until like 4. 5 seconds into the pull

And after I let off the throttle, it was down to 900* within seconds

SOOOO... good luck! (and dont worry about it)

Yeah really just put your foot to it I have seen 1650* on mine at the track with my old set-up(engine) and when I took it apart the only thing I seen done to the pistons was shrapnel impacting from when my turbo let go, no heat damage! Run it like you stole it!

And good luck on your goal.

Finally!

Finally, I am going to be on the dyno this saturday. I do have one question on the comp, which sub-level is better to run on the dyno? (ie. 1 or 5) I will post the results next week.

Nhice!!:D Keep us updated.

First, let me repeat (I've said it before) that the pyrometer is for Towing and Tuning and Cooldown---not competition.

Until very recently the pyro on my 12v hit the peg every time I dropped the hammer. Now it gets to around 1450--and then the end of the track or top speed is accomplished and it's over and it all cools off nicely.

Airflow upgrades are usually too far down the BOMBer's list.

On the sub-level. I've run 5x3 and 5x5 back to back on the 24v. Same peak HP. A tad less soot on 5x3. ;)

Well-built aftermarket turbos are SO much better than stock that I'm beginning to recommend them first--or at least a lot higher up the list.
