0-60 time of a stock truck

Low Sulpher Fuel

I have the impression that putting my truck on a dyno at a shop that is not familiar with running diesel trucks will not yeild accurrate results. Is this reasonable? Perhaps the difference is between a Mustang where I understand there is a lot more operator input as opposed to a DynoJet. Also, is there a difference in how the test is run in terms of driving the vehicle on the rollers and/or how the test is administered?

Your right. With a Mustang its more operator.

With a Jet having a good operator is nice (Dunbar), but the dyno itself if more user friendly than the Mustang unit (at least in my experience).

Less variation with a Jet also.

what kind of dyno was your last run on?

I vote for David Dunbar as well... . He has dynoed everything from 1000 hp mud racers to mopeds and his team is top notch especially when it comes to safety.

BILL WANTS 525 Oo. :-laf :D

YEPPERS! Damn Goals... . :-laf :-laf

My last run was on a DynoJet at Kauffmans, a very reputable shop. So I don't have any issues with that event. But I was expecting more in the 525 range so "only" hitting 501 (on the 3rd run) was a bit dissappointing. I know... I know... :{ :{

I recently learned that I did not have the wastegate hooked up (duh). Speculation is that was robbing me of at least 10-15hp, hopefully more (sounds weird).

I agree Dave is the man, but I will have to wait at least until spring to attend an event where I am 100% confident in the equipment and operators. However I hear about other shops located within a reasonable distance that I can run on, and/or are having a diesel truck event. But still, I have been disqualifing them unless I know that they have strong experience with our trucks.

So, before I go blow the $$ and time, I am curious how reliable to the results will be from a shop that is not necessarily experienced with running our type trucks.

Just thought I would check back... .

Once again, I am not necessarily comparing machines or my numbers. Just trying to get a feel for dyno shops in general. There are a lot more around that "typically" run gas cars, however many of these will run diesel trucks. Common sense tells me to go to a shop or event that specializes in running our trucks. I am just trying to get a feel for what other people think about running at a shop with limited or no diesel truck experience.

TIA,

Bill

Bill,

Find a shop that has a dynojet 248c or 248x. Ask them if you can operate (drive) your truck while you run it, then give me a call and I will fill you in. There is really no big trick to it but rather its more important to understand what to do.

Bill if you dyno soon let us know!! :D

Well from the driver seat :-laf it feels a good 510 rwhp, now from the passenger seat with crazy bill driving its a good 535 rwhp :p

@ a certain event on a mustang dyno my truck hit 297 rwhp, then at another dyno same place just a few months apart and a few more miles on the rig it dyno'd in the ball park of 30-40 hp less (on the second run) Im sure the difference in outside temps made a factor but thats quite the drop isnt it?

Bill- didnt you have the same situation? or was it you put down more hp with the comp off than with it on?

Well, I suppose once you've blown one up you have less fear. :-laf More respect, but still less fear.

It pulled 460hp in mid-Aug '03 on a Mustang at a reputable event with their operator driving, ... too high by an estimated 35-40hp. Next was 343hp in mid-May '05 (very different weather) on a different Mustang at a shop without diesel experience, with me driving. However in all fairness at the May run I was putting out the fire by over-fueling on the low end. The VP key was jacked and I was experimenting with a part combination that did not seem to play well together. I did hit a higher number on 3x3 than I did on 5x5. But an 80hp loss seems extreme as well. Most recently 498, 499, 501 in mid-Oct at a reputable event on a DynoJet with their operator driving. This time the wastegate was disconnected thus hampering my numbers. One of these times I will get it right   :D
