With the power you have, 5th gear, drop the hammer at 1500rpm and let'er eat to the governor. If you plan to tap the pump wire at some point, then go ahead and repeat in 6th. For trucks under 375rwhp or so, 5th usually makes better numbers. Above that, 6th will make the better number.

With trucks that are near stock (375rwhp or less), I use direct (4th in 5spds, 5th in 6spds) and in higher HP trucks, especially trucks with bigger turbo's, I use OverDrive. That helps to get the turbo's spooled. I start at 1,500RPM, and go WOT. I have found that if I lug the motor too much on the dyno, the truck will do 2-3 hp less.

Make sure you have your tires aired up all the way, your u-joints are greased (if they are greasable), your air filter is clean, and you have enough oil.

If you just want a rough estimate, hop on the dyno, get it to 1,500RPM in Direct geart, and go WOT untill it hits redline.
