Minnesota TDR Meeting

I figured someone would have posted by now, but all I can say is... WOW! Dyno Day was great! I enjoyed seeing all those good looking rigs and hearing some power! I even got to chat with alot of great diesel nuts.
Our convoy ended up with 14 trucks. #ad

I did get my rig on the dyno. It did 295hp.
Here's the stuff that got it there:
DD stage II injectors
Boost module
wastegate elbow
K&N RE-0880 filter
Straight pipe exhaust

Not bad for starters!

A vulgar display of power!

Sounds like you had a great time. I hope I can make it to the next one. Did they give you any torque figures? And were there any stock 24v autos?

Michael, the next one will be sometime this fall. I had a great time there as well. Our 14-truck convoy on I-5 sure turned a lot of heads!

yep... dyno days was a blast... my ears are still ringing, and my voice is just about gone from yelling above the sound of the mighty Cummins! BD put on a good show, and this time the weather cooperated.

I dynoed my truck twice... the first time I got 270hp. I was a bit disappointed, but I immediately went to look for the upgrade for my Blue Box. We found one that BD had, and it snapped into place. I then set my box at 50%, and got back in line. Backed onto the dyno and BD started to run it. Tire slippage! I yelled out "more weight" and five or six guys bailed into the bed like they were going to get an E Ticket ride! It was great. Anyway, this time the machine showed 300hp, but the guy got out of the truck and said he was disappointed... he said that the wheels were still slipping and from the spikes on the guage, it should have reached the 340-350hp range. Wow! I was a happy camper!
Now, bad news... I don't feel the dyno was very scientific or all that reliable. Tire slippage was a major problem for numerous trucks. Some tires left wads of rubber on the rollers, adding to the slippage of the next truck. The dyno got extremely hot, and a hose was used to cool it down during and between runs(not immediately on the rollers). Despite those problems, it was a thrill to watch your truck being dynoed!

By the way, we had fourteen (14) trucks representing the NW BOMBers... pics to follow!

I also had an excellent time and was glad to be included as a NW BOMBER with my stock truck, it was definately the lowest powered truck in the BOMBVOY (138 HP box stock except for K&N filter), but you guys made it a great day and didn't even leave me in your dust. #ad
Vicki even had a good time. #ad
Now I just need to get to work and install the new exhaust and maghytech trans pan that I puchased from BD. It was great to see so many high HP Rams smoking their tires on the dyno!!!!

Forget about the torque figures. I read another posting which explained how the dyno works. Im saving for MM otherwise Id been there. Will plan for the fall. Regardless of the problems its sounds like it was a blast. #ad
300HP+ sounds good to me Rob. Better than my %$# stocker. After reading boatpullers numbers I had better revise my numbers. Injectors here we come.

Sorry I did not have the opportunity to convoy with the fellow northwest rammers. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it, but I did by late in the afternoon. I, too, was excited by watching everyone’s trucks being dynoed. I was number 65 in line and nothing but grin from ear to ear when my own truck pegged the dyno @ 400 + with throttle still in reserve and just breaking 1300 egt. I have to take my hat off to Piers on his HX40 set up… it is incredible!!

Heh heh...

What a GREAT day! #ad

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for participating in the NW BOMBers' convoy. Sure was fun... Those trucks looked great barreling down the freeway!

The convoy was super, and so was breakfast up in Arlington. I even put on a little show and did a couple of burnouts int he parking lot. #ad
Heh heh gotta live up to my NW PUNK name! #ad
Plus, I did a burnout when I left BD and headed back to Seattle. Maybe y'all heard the tire screeching around 3:30 PM? #ad
Well, that was me! #ad

I was also pretty pleased with my dyno results... I was around 205-215 HP, and my motor is all stock except for 4" exhaust and K&N filter. Pretty impressive. #ad
Man, my 4" dual PIPE BOMBed exhaust was LOUD in the dyno bay! Sounded great!

Sure, all the dyno runs were fun, but the ride in Piers' truck was the highlight of the day! That truck is absolutely awesome!!! We went through the intersection right by BD, and he nailed it and broke the tires loose (of course) and sent a HUGE cloud of black smoke all over the surrounding area. He then proceeded to go down another road... We were doing about 30 or so, and then he nailed is (again) and in about 100 yards we were doing 110 mph!!! TONS of black smoke. Couldn't even see the road behind us! I have never felt acceleration like that before... The power is immense... Pushed us back in the seats a good 2" or so. Tons of G forces! #ad

Seeing all of those trucks withh 280, 290, 300+ HP made me even more anxious for my 2001 ETH. My goal will be 375+ HP, which according to Piers, won't be too hard to do. #ad

Well, till next time!

BOMBED HAPPY #ad

DITTO on all of the above! What a sight seeing 14 RAMs cruising up I-5. The phord guys must be pretty embarrased, I would say the ratio of Dodge to ford at Dyno Day must have been around 5 to 1. I think there was only 1 chev diesel.

Piers - Your mighty 12V is awesome, you must pay the cops NOT to hang around the area of BD! The hugh diesel & tire SMOKE STORM clouds were just too cool!

All I can say is WOW! What an awesome display of power on the dyno by all the Rams that participated! Andrew (BD head mechanic) had to make two simultaneous dyno attempts in my Ram as tire slippage was unbelievable. #ad
At the end of each run it was hard to determine which was smoking more, my tires or the dyno!

It was also a real treat to meet Bill Kondolay and Piers Harry! Bill took the time to show me the internal workings of the special BD torque converter he supplied for my recent transmission enhancement. Very trick! Thank you very much Bill... it's a real pleasure talking to a NO BS kind of guy! BTW, thank you Dave (Perea) for taking the time to lead me to Bill and pointing him out to me. Per usual, your Ram looked outstanding! He's even made more trick enhancements to his Ram, adding even more chrome and polished stainless steel (if that was even possible!). #ad
Absolutely *****in' Dave! #ad

In addition, it was also a real treat to finally meet Jason Burton (owner of NW Custom). He even showed me some other "must have" accessories for my Ram. Jason, I'm not sure whether I should thank you or not. LOL #ad

Now if I could just get those little blue Cummins "C"s away from Evan.....

Hey Scott, I really wish you could have been there although, I had such a miserable time on the dyno due to tire/roller adhesion, I would hate to have admitted it was my Ram. Next time, I either get the assurance to chain down the ass end (prior to committing. . like Jason suggested) or have a lot of help in the ballast department prior to runnin' it on the dyno! Not only that, I must have left the equivalent of 10,000 miles of tire wear on the dyno roller. As it was, I had a very good time! Seeing old friends, meeting new ones, as well as finally meeting others you "know" is what made it a great time! Thanks all! #ad

Scott, I would REALLY like to get a pair (or at least one) of the little Cummins blue "C" emblems... the ones that are about 1. 5" tall (not the larger ones). Any ideas?

Dyno Day was a great experience, never been to such an event before. It's one thing to read about Cummins power, but it's totally different to see it and experience it firsthand. It was great to see so many Dodge/Cummins trucks dyno above 250-300HP. Several besides John & Rob had trouble getting reliable numbers because either traction was a problem, the dyno was overheating, or some Rams simply overpowered it. There was a showing of a few PSDs as well, which were right around 200HP stock and 270-300HP chipped. The highest PSD was 320HP, which was trumped by several Rams. The poor Chevy guys must be diehards. A stock 2000 could only muster 160HP. A chipped & downpiped '99 could only belt out 220. My stocker ETH (well, stock except for my new K&N RE-0880) delivered 245HP, which I'm guessing was the highest "stock" HP reading of the day #ad
Cummins power dominated #ad

The highlight of course was Piers' demonstration of power #ad
. We're talking traffic-stopping plumes of tire and diesel smoke #ad

. The looks on other drivers' faces was priceless #ad

HAPPY ETH BOMBer!!

I just updated my site with some dyno day pics.
Been thinking about that dyno... wonder if tire pressure has anything to do with it... Vaughn and mike, what pressure are you running? Evan? I run 65psi in all six tires. John, what do you run? I did see a guy or two that loaded the bed with things... one was cinder blocks! The dyno was fun... never forget it, but the best was looking in the rear view mirror at 13 Rams following... or taking up the last slot, and slowly passing them all, checking out their rigs.

Rob,

I run 50 up front, and 45 in the back. That is a good point though, about how tire pressure could effect dyno numbers due to traction. #ad
Those rollers looked awfully slippery. That metal is so worn and so polished, it is like driving on the steel plates that cover holes in the road when crews are working. Hmmm... #ad

I was lucky in having the use of 20 or so cinder blocks, and aired my tires (255/85) down from 60 psi to 40. I was also fortunate to have been the first run after they let the dyno cool for a 20 minutes of so. What I noticed was the two strong trucks I saw having traction problems on the dyno were running more aggressive tire tread then I was. They did use the cinder blocks in their trucks as well.

As you know Rob, earlier in the week I had all four of my tires/wheels off for repair (I had a slow leak in one), all four of them balanced and gave my M/T Challengers a good polishing prior reinstallation. The tires were set (with a precision tire gauge) at: 56 front, 52 rear (65 is max. ). I don't mess around! I like the handling of the stiffer pressure. Maybe I should have aired those pups down to 20 psi. and loaded six guys about the size of Scott in the bed. Ya think?

[This message has been edited by John (edited 04-17-2000). ]

Air pressure in the tires is a lesson I won't soon forget! I'm sure with the weight of the NW BOMBers in the back of my truck, I was up there with the cinder blocks... I will do some research on this!

Yeah,I also like my tires pumped up to the high pressures. I noticed how shinny the dyno rollers were and thought my BFG all-terrains might have traction problems,so I aired the rears down to 42psi.

Hey DBR,was your truck the reg cab 4x4 with the Whidbey Is. NAS sticker on it?

-Mike
