how can i adjust the e-brake tighter... i have adjusted the rear brakes star wheel drum adjustment nice and tight, and the e-brake adjustment on the cable is tightened all the way up from the factory. the rear brake shoes have a lot of wear left in them yet... is this something i have to live with???

Do you use your e-brake all the time with your 5spd? If so that should keep your e-brake adjusted. At least that's what I've always heard. I never get out of my truck without the e-brake set.

The Dodge service manual makes a big deal about not adjusting the e-brake until first verifying the rear brakes are working correctly. In fact they say no adjustment is necessary unless parts have been replaced.

Have your brakes been worked on recently and maybe not put back together correctly? That is usually the cause of a poor e-brake along with the shoes being out of adjustment.

brakes are totally stock... never even had the drums off yet! i just keep adjusting the star wheels every 5k miles or so just so the shoes rub the drum while turning by hand. i think they (DC) must make a big deal about not adjusting the e-brake, cause there is not enough adjustment in the cable to begin with. mine has been tightened up to the end of the adjustment since the day i drove it off the lot.

I had the same problem with mine. I still had good shoes left, but the drums were wore pased spec after turning. I also needed new spring kits. Now I only have to push the e-brake 2" and it HOLDS. I wish you luck.

mine is the same way. i've been contemplating on loosening the adjuster almost until it is at the end, cutting the cable, tieing in a steel 6",2000lb. ,turnbuckle, then rejoin the cable back to itself with cable clamps. just a thought.
