E- brake noise

I just installed the e brake on the truck. What kind of noise should you hear when the brake activates. I hear a loud hiss that sounds kind of like a big vaccum leak. Being this is my first brake I don't know whether I have a leak or if this is normal. The brake does work, but it was dark when I finished so I haven't had the oppurtunity to check for leaks.

I assume that you are listening to the truck as it idles with the brake on. The hiss is normal for the E-brake. Let the truck idle with the brake turned off and the hiss should stop.

If you have created an exhaust leak it should be fairly easy to locate - one end of the elbow or the other.

Yeah, mine makes that noise whenever it is engaged. That excess pressure build up has to go somewhere I geuss. When I disengage mine it sounds like like air brake pressure release.

Yes it is normal, it is the exhaust passing through the hole in the butterfly. Had someone the other day ask if I had air brakes #ad

This site is great. I also have the hissing sound and was getting ready to crawl under truck and see what I had created or did wrong. Talk about relief. Thanks much #ad

You outta hear my Jacobs ebrake with my straight pipe exhaust. It freaks some people out.

MikeR... you just think its the straight-piped exhaust brake noise... really they are freaked from watching you go sideways down the four lane!
