Looks like I found my 12V

4BT into M38a1 OR CJ3B?

Has anyone put a E Brake on a 4BT or 4BTA non computer engine. Which E brake did you use, were you pleased with the results ?

A friend I know in the construction business has a 4bt in his 1987 p-30 bread truck/caprpentry van. He has an exhaust brake put on it a year or two back, he has been very happy with it. It has drastically reduced his brake jobs, not to mention help with warm up periods in the winter time by turning it on after starting the truck up. I think his was/is a pac brake, I can check if you're looking for a specific brand review to decide with.

His van was the determining factor in why I put one on my dodge, I have a banks brake and other than the accelerator micro switch being a real pain to adjust, I have no complaints.

His van pulls an equipment trailer in town several times a week as well as on the highway, the E brake holds it back very well. I am guessing his trailer weighs around 5,000 lbs or so? Van is filled to the gills with carpentry tools and hardware. He has a nv-4500 conversion behind his 4bta, overall mileage in the low 20's usually without trailer.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I would appreciate what brand he used, and was his Cummins an older non computer model .

Thank You

Engine is an old rotary pump design. It is the original engine, (rebuilt a few times) that came in the truck in 1987 or 1988. The year is approximate, It was one of a few trucks we picked up to salvage for the engine, but it was in too nice of shape to scrap once we looked it over better.

I will check with him for sure next time I see him about the brake model. I am almost certain it was a pac brake.
