Do you have to change the engine exhaust valve springs when installing an E brake. I have seen reference to changing valve springs with E brakes and am confused.
Thanks

If your GCVR is under 16000 no changes required to valves springs according to BD instalation instructions. But I don't know about other makes. Hope this helps.

Per BD's instruction manual; adjust the brake pressure to 20-25lbs on the 24 valve or the 12 valve with the 60lb springs installed. On the 12 valve with the standard springs, adjust the pressure to 10-15 lbs. I don't know the concequences of overpressure.

By the way, I did the 60lb springs on my truck. Unless your used to getting into the engine, prepare for an all day job. My problem was my cheapo valve spring compressors. They tended to twist the springs and the springs would pop out sideways.

I am very satisfied with my braking power.

I do have a question on the heavy springs for the power guru's though. Is there any advantage to replacing the intake valve springs with the heavier spring?

The only benefit to heavier valve springs is to keep the valves closed at high RPM, at least with gas motors thats the way it is(except with the exhaust brake so it seems) . Along with heavier springs comes more cam wear and other minor stresses that arnt normally a problem unless you go overboard with the spring pressure. If the valves are closing good no spring upgrade is needed.

If you use a Jacobs/Ram Brake on your engine, you MUST change to the 60-lb. exhaust valve springs. I don't know what is recommended with other brakes. I get very good braking with my Jacobs/Ram brake and would recommend it.
