I have been told to activate the exhaust brake in the morning to help warm the engine up. I wait a few seconds for the pressure to come up and then throw the switch. The brake forces the engine to work a little harder than at idle. I wait until I hit 300 degrees and then take off. If I remember correctly, the Pac Brake directions also state that using the exhaust brake is a good way to warm up your engine.

The work great. Just wait for oil pressure, flip on the brake and your egts climb warming the engine. In the winter it puts my egts to 375ish in the heat they go to 480ish but I am just guessing on each. it is a great warmup tool.

I also use it if I have to idle the engine for AC with my dogs in side or any other reason.

This is the number one reason I bought an exhaust brake!

Its down hill for about 5 miles from my house to anywhere I go, in the winter it takes about 10 minutes of driving to get heat out of the truck!

With the exhaust brake, I start the truck, wait about 10 sec (oil pressure) throw the switch on, go back inside to grab my computer case, lunch (kiss the wife good bye) and head for the truck. In just a couple minutes of idle with the brake on I can feel HEAT!

I think I see an EGT of 300 at idle with brake off, and around 500 with it on.

Plus they really help stopping also!

IMHO, the only downside to an exhaust brake is the fact that the IAT sensor gets dirty faster. When I bought my truck the first Bomb was an exhaust brake. I too use it for cold warm ups. I am finally over 200 posts.
