2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Shocks

I'd like to upgrade the braking system on my '96 to the later model hydroboost setup. My question is will the hydroboost unit from a later 2nd Gen. truck bolt-up in place of my existing vaccum booster? I realize I will need to address the pump and hoses. Just mainly concearned with the possiblity of sourcing a hydroboost setup off a later rig to upgrade mine. Thanks in advance. Chris

I did it to my 96. I put a 02 disk rear end, hydro boost unit and master cyl. The 02 proportioning valve and master cyl have different size lines and different treads so used the 96 valve. I had to get some extra 96 misc lines and fittings and bore the center of them and reflare the lines. so I could go into the 02 master. Its sounds difficult but its not. get a thread guage and flareing tool and some extra ends or misc brake lines off a 96. look at the two master cyl next to each other and you will see the line and fitting diff. .

I suggest you find a donor truck and use those parts. The pressure hose from the hydroboost to the steering gear box is over $200 new from Dodge. If you have a donor truck it will be easy to figure out what all you need.

You can replace all the hoses for way less than that if you shop around. I got mine at Rockauto.com

Got a 94 that I would like to change. I have looked in to doing it and was told that you didn't have to change the master cylinder, the 94 will bolt up and work. If it will, it would not be a hard thing to do. I have a 98 that has the hydro power boost and the brakes are a lot better than the 94.

Find a donor and then replace the hoses with new ones that match the donor. I think any 2nd gen with a hydroboost will work. The hard part will be running lines from the new master cylinder to the old combination valve, assuming you use the old one.

You will need a Tee and some powersteering return line. It was pretty easy with a donor.
