Hi all,
Have a.2009 CTD - stock. Last month I performed the 67,500 mile emission maintenance and shortly thereafter the oil change alarm bell went off with approximately 2,800 miles on the oil change. The truck is used to pull trailers 8k or less typically. Running solo the trips are usually at least 10 miles. Idling is typical time to hook up a trailer or traffic lights.
This early oil changed happened once last year at 2,500 miles. I usually change the oil at 5k miles.
I sent off a sample to blackstone labs to check the fuel dilution. If I am reading the report correctly it is less than a half percent (0.5%).
Think this is a result of poor driving habits or something deeper I should be more concerned with? The truck seems to run fine, no CEL's, mileage is so-so.
Here is a cut and paste of the comment section in the report.
"STEVE: We're not sure what prompted the short oil change suggestion by the computer. We didn't find any fuel contamination in the oil, and no coolant, water, or other contamination was found either. Wear metals are looking pretty good for the most part. Averages for this engine type are based on about 7,000 miles on the oil, so on a ppm/mile basis, iron is maybe a shade high, but it's certainly not out of line. If your engine sees hard use or lots of idling, a little extra iron may be the norm. Seems fine from here. Note that titanium is oil additive -- it's fine."
