No matter what you thought of him, you don't want to see this happen to anyone.

Bummer. #ad

It feels like the end of an era to me... I've watched NASCAR for over 30 years now, starting with the very first race ever held at Talladega, and never was happy with all the changes brought about by big money and other things... Earnhardt was the last of the good old days for me... when anyone with $8000 and a welder could go racing...
I'm sad for his kids, and his wife, but at least he died doing exactly what he wanted to do. Most of all, I'm sad for Richard Childress, his car owner. The two were close friends, and had a powerful business/racing alliance that stood the test of time.
The loss of his tremendous talent, whether you liked him or not, is a bad blow to the sport, and fans.

I have not watched Nascar for years, decided to because of the Dodges.
Was overjoyed for Michael. 1-463
I thought it must be bad when noone said "Dale is out of the car"
Then all they said was "He is on the way to the hospital"

When the announcers are not jackin their jaws, you get nervous.

I just found out, can not believe it.
All the restricter plates and safety equipment, can't stop a bad hit.

Man, this just ain't right.

Thanks for the kind words, John_P... . I chose to post on this thread because of the ridiculous bickering on the other thread, by non-Southerners. My heart goes out to all the North Carolinans who lost a favorite native son. The rest of us lost one of the last bastions of the old South, a symbol of the time and traditions we grew up in...

No offense meant against you Stan, there are certain people that grew up in another day and age, in the South, like me, and our partisan feelings often run deep. Earnhardt was one of the last of the "good 'ol boys", a symbol to us...
NASCAR started in the South, and remained there for many years, and we've always seen it as a part of our heritage.
But with all the great fans all over the U. S. like you, it's no longer "ours" alone... so there's obviously no room for a partisan attitude among NASCAR fans, anymore... that would be selfish and foolish... .
I have friends in all parts of the U. S. who are into it as much as I am, and they've slammed me a few times for being a little heavy on the Southern pride, but I can't apologize for that...
For what it's worth, since you're a fan, and obviously decent and sensible, I'll consider you a "good 'ol boy" too #ad
. Home is where the heart is, after all.

It was said last nite about the big E that some drivers loved him and that some feared him and a few hated him, but they ALL respected him!!!

So now he is in Valhalla where all great warriors go!! Pete

Hey guys, not all "non southerners" have bad things to say about Dale. I posted on the other one saying that I hoped everyone would put aside their personal feelings and not slam the memory of Dale. I meant what I said.

My son and I were involved in local racing for a couple of years and it is always tough when someone crashes hard. Much tougher when they get hurt bad or worse. Dale made Nascar what it is today and it doesn't matter if someone liked or disliked his driving style. As others have said, he died doing what he loved and that is a much better way to go than dying from a major illness such as cancer and wasting away for several years.

Sure doesn't make the event any easier to accept or understand though. #ad

Dale, I hope the track is a good one up there. you will be missed down here. Godspeed.

Brian, you keep that pride going! There are too many people today that do not understand that. I have some friends in Rock Hill as well as western Tennessee that feel the same way as you. Not just about racing but life in general.

I think it is safe to say that the old saying "gone but not forgotten" will prove to be the case. Dale will always be at the race track watching. Hope his boy turns out to be as good as he was.

Stan
