My first experience with money

DC Police and new forum

Wow... Been looking at the nature photography on www.earthroamer.com in his gallery online.

Makes me wanna go north for a summer.

If you haven't been there, you should. His articles in TDR were good, but the photography is excellent.

The photo's are nice but seeing them in person is a lot better. I put my first 37,000 miles on my truck in Alaska and Canada, and saw the most amazing sites. I woke up every morning looking out the camper window and thought I died and gone to heaven. I ended up buying a manufactered home in Anchorage and hope to move there for good. As of now I live in Oregon, nice state too, going to school here. The only thing I did not like in Alaska was all the Mosquitoes. Texas has the biggest Mosquitoes, but Alaska out numbers them 10,000 to 1. Everyone needs to go visit Alaska at least once and while you are young. Take plenty of film, diesel, and a Milepost, and have fun...

I must agree with lgibson, everyone must at least visit alaska once (even if not with your beloved cummins), the beauty is incredible. Lived there for 23 years and miss it almost every day. -Ketchikan- Home of the KayHi Kings... ... .

And if you are really spunky, you can take a couple of weeks to see 1150 miles (+or-) of Alaska up close and personal riding/guiding/pushing/running/sleeping on the runners of a dogsled between Anchorage and Nome early in March each year. Just be very careful around the moose. ;)

Today, I saw on I-5 in Seattle an Earthroamer/Turtle Expedition type truck towing a small army style utility trailer. The truck was an older body style Chevy w/winch bumpers, roof rack, etc. The license plates on the truck and trailer were European, and the camper in the bed of the truck appeared to be custom made or home made. Someone had written with their finger in the dirt on the rear camper window something in German (or maybe it was Dutch, Danish, or ??). As I passed the truck, I just caught the last two words: "Canada Trek".

I thought to myself, "How cool it must be to hit the road for months on end. " I would love to do that, someday! I wish I had gotten a chance to talk to the couple in that truck. I know they'll never see this, but I hope they have a safe trip and I hope that the Americans they encounter treat them nicely.

Well Andy, if they're even half as nice as you are that won't be a problem. :)

I too have followed the earthroamer.com adventures from as far back as when he ordered his Ram. Additionally, I have always faithfully followed all the Turtle Expeditions... people with the guts and means to persue a dream they have always had. Me? I guess I'll be the one following their journeys while still dreaming myself.

Feeling spunky?

That's a coincedence! On the National Geographic channel last night, there was a great program about the race, the participants and the sled dogs. A friend of mine here in Europe (Roy Walwyn) made the trip upto Alaska about 5 years go in his 12 valve 3500 and camper, spent the whole summer up there raving about it and then decided to head south for the winter - headed for the canal and didn't stop until he got to the tip of South America!! He was OTR for a whole year by the time he got back to the lower 48.
