My truck goes thru front pads every forty#@$%!K. Any more and I run the risk of getting into the rotors. I've tried everything in the Raybestos lineup. Is this the average for everyone with an automatic? Is my proportion valve B. O. or is there something else going on?

#1 cause for rapid front brake wear on these trucks is rear brakes not adjusted properly. 40k is not bad for an auto though

i got 8k out of my last set with brand new calipers and rotors. mud got in the pins and made only the inner pad wear. i hate my front brakes. my friends dmax has not changed pads for 135k and they still look like the have %50 left.

I am on my 3rd set of pads on my 02, the stock ones lasted 67k and I replaced them with "Hawk pads from Geno's". The hawks lasted till 140k so I went with them again. ;)

My 98 2wd went thru front brakes every 20M, and I would usually crack a rotor. My newer dually (rear disc) stops faster and does not tear up front brakes. If your going to keep the truck upgrade the back to disc.

If I'm not mistaken, the 01's and up, maybe even mid year 2000 had rear discs. I agree with earlier posts about adjusting the rear brakes. On my 99, drums in the rear, I had to change out the shoes on those bad boys, due to excessive burnouts. I think my dad got like 200,000 on his orignial shoes on his 99 and I got only about 40,000, haha. I also run the Hawk extreme duty pads and power slot rotors, works well for me, have just over 30,000 on them and still look fine.
