Eating oil

Friend has a tow truck, its a 2007 Ford F-650 with the ISB 5. 9L rated at 265HP and Allison transmission. Its gobbling oil about a quart every 150 miles. No drips or wet spots on the motor. He said it smokes when pulling, but its black smoke. I'm thinking a turbo issue. Any ideas on troubleshooting suggestions? Motor has 310K on it.

Pull the inter cooler pipes, look in there for your oil. Could be the turbocharger seals.

Pull the inter cooler pipes, look in there for your oil. Could be the turbocharger seals.

And if it is, the intercooler must be cleaned out to get all the oil out. Otherwise, motor could start fueling from that oil.
