12 volt heater

looking at the size of heater and thinking about what you are asking it to do my feeling is NO WAY.

When the engine is cold, start up will be the time when you need warm fuel if not hot fuel.

look at what it takes just to heat the engine bock 1500 watt heater and it will keep it warm all night long warm to the touch.

A little probe will heat the fuel right before the fuel filter but the size of the filter will eat up the heat faster then you can put heat in to it.

The heat I use is an Arctic Fox in tank heater shuts off at 80 degrees with a FASS unit with the heater ports in use, line's running down from the engine for heat with the 3/8 fuel line bundled to the heating lines.

the outside temp was 27 degrees in the morning fuel tank temp was 27 also temp at the fuel pump same 27 degrees but the temp at the ip pump was 42 degrees. this was from the engine heat from the block heater. the head and block stay at 95 degrees the fuel in the ip is warm and the fuel in the rail is warm also the fuel in the head is hot.

as soon as its started the temps start to rise pumping the oil to 7000 psi thats what the ip does to get it started makes heat.

I start the engine 10 mins before go to work this give the engine time to start heating the tank and fuel lines and fuel so its hotter I got in to the truck and looked at the gauges temp in tank was 38 degrees at pump 42 degrees and at the ip 57 degrees Temps going up so away I go

When a got to work 17 miles temps were at 65 in the tank 72 at the pump and 85 at the IP the out side temp had fallen to 25 degrees at this time.

The Engine heat will heat the oil fine just put in a flat plate heater in the fuel line and you will get all the heat you need plug the truck in at night on a timer if you want and it will be fine if you have cold weather then go all the way and heat the tank fuel pump and lines then you will be fine in all temps

Diesel fuel runs the best at 80 degrees SVO runs the best at 140 to 160 and a Blend Fuel between 80 and 120 seems to do the trick.

just my thoughts on this

Thanks CJ. You always have some good & useful info. :D

I've seen 600 watt 12 volt elements, but theyre made for 1" NPT holes. :mad:

Guess I'll be burning more of the green stuff at least this winter. :eek:

I am planning on using the factory trans/eng coolant heat exchanger from my 02 on a school bus WVO project. I will use the coolant side for coolant and the trans oil side for the WVO. I dont know if this will help yall or not? Yall think it will work? I hope it will work great.

I dont even know what you mean???:confused:

Are you cutting a hole in your fuel tank and installing the eng/trans heater in there???

I have a simple loop in my transfer flow. It does almost nothing with 60 gals in there. :{

I should have opened up the hole to install a LARGE coil. That's on the workbench. I couldnt bring myself to cut the tank. :{:{

heating up oil for fuel

sure it will work

what i put in my tank is called an liquid to liquid heat exchanger or a heating loop

arctic fox makes these and a company called aeroquip makes these also coolent runs thru them and there is a loop to heat or cool depends on what you are trying to do,but they work good.

all the stuff is out there you just need to look for it everyday some thing pops in to my head that makes me think a little more about what might work. most of the stuff will work it just costs alot at times

cutting a 1000. 00 tank takes guts make sure there is plenty of room to get the heater in and sealed up before you do it,

If you are replying to me... The heat exchanger uses hoses from the coolant and the trans fluid to allow the two fluids to exchange heat within the exchanger. I will simply flow fuel thru the side where trans fluid used to flow on its way to the engine.
