Non-TDR member advertisements

Hello, All:

It seems to me that, if these sellers were TDR members, they would have either posted their merchandise HERE or would have posted their own link for the eBay sale. If one accepts that premise, we are essentially advertising non-members' items as prominantly (perhaps even more so) than members' items. Is that really what we want to do here?

Ironically, I still feel this way even though I have been looking for both a cheap Comp box and 4-inch exhaust and had no idea these were on eBay.

Moderator(s): you're opinions, please.

Define cheap? I can name a vendor that sells COMPs "cheap" in my opinion... ... ... .

And as far as the items, you can argue both sides of the fence. Yes its most likely non members stuff, but other members are helping other members sometimes find good deals. So personally I don't feel there is anything "wrong" with post stuff we come across for sale.

I can definitely see both sides of the fence, Kat. This forum does alert members to deals on items they may not otherwise know about. However, if I had an item for sale on the TDR, I'd be upset if a non-member's item received more prominant attention than mine.

I can't define cheap for a Comp yet because I had been looking at a TST PM3 until they refused to provide data for the box comparison. Although I'd still be interested in one, I was really off-put by that. A deal on a Comp would be great but a TST PM3 (or Blue Box equivalent) cheap would be better. I have no gauges so I have to calculate their cost with a Comp.

Whatever I do, I don't think I want to perce the pump wire yet as I'm still in warranty.

As a TDR member and a moderator, I want to thank Txdieselkid for the "heads up" and the time and talent for a very informative post. Could it be, is it possible, have you ever considered that maybe the person on Ebay selling the item has never heard of the TDR and could be a potential member who could make a meaningful contribution to our organization. If you don't want to pierce the wire... ... ... then you can't really use a PowerMax³ or a BlueBox FMS. You could use the "EZ" side of the COMP tho... if you decide to go that route. BlueChip does have the pump cover to keep from directly piercing the wire, and TST has their connection they came up with as well that is less intrusive then scotchloks. But in any case your still piercing the wire.

On the items issue... . like I said I see the arguement for both sides of the fence... ... neither side is wrong in "my opinion". I would like to think in a perfect world that members would check the TDR classifieds first for items, but with EBAY being so big... . its nice when other members post about particular items they ran across. If you close the door to post auction items... ... . then you have effectivly cut off one outlet of obtaining items... ... maybe other moderators and or adminstrators have a different take on things... but like I said above this is "my" opinion.

Frankly, I hadn't. This is an opportunity for us to send an email to them extolling our virtues, including our classified BB. Even if I were simply selling an item I'd come across elsewhere, the $35 would be money well spent to reach an audience that targeted. That's good thinking, Barry. The more members we have, the greater the knowledge base!

sounds like a good idea to me. if nothing else, than to post links to the classifieds. been here 2 months now, looked at the classifids 1 time. separate "for sale" forum under the others section could work. how about it admins'? a few week trial to see how it could work...

Let me open by saying I hope I didn't open up a can of worms with this thread. Threads that are doing the same thing as this, have come up several times before. So as I was cruseing EBay last night I figured what the heck.

If the site staff wishs me not to post any threads like this again, please let me know.

Stop bickering.... Sheesh.

Right... Wrong. . Blah blah blah... :-{}

Enough being the morality police and let the member post, thats what they pay for. The moderators do enough already without dealing with this non-issue.

Thanks TXDieselKid for taking the time to post this stuff.

Sounds like Andrew is stirring the pot again. :)

Just kiddin Kid. Gortta raz ya a little.

Just for the record, I've had two different items listed in the TDR classifieds in the past 4 months. I got no reply on either item. One was a steel brush guard and the other was a set of flip up towing mirrors. I put the mirrors on Ebay and sold them in a week.

Might try it with the brushguard next.

I bet alot of members don't know that goldmine is waiting at the top of the page.
