A question for you guys that have replaced starters-------Has anyone bought starters from the Ebay sellers? Prices look pretty good ($115---175), I'm wondering about the quality. Local NAPA has a new Bosch for $225. What do you think?

Careful when you buy a new starter, most of them are the 2nd gen style and while they will fit the first gen, they aren't as robust. The same applies when you buy a reman most of them are a 2nd gen. starters.

I think those are 'new' remans IMO, I'd pass on those ebay starters, unless you get lucky enough to find a OEM/Cummins starter, I missed out on a genuine new old stock for about $90. Why are you wanting a new starter with all those LOW mileage CTD's???? If you're worried about one of them, pull it, and for about $20 you can replace the 4 brushes, and another $20 give or take depending on where you get them, a set of contacts and plunger. Very simple to do, not rocket science. No special tools required.

although most of the starters from napa or other suppliers have a lifetime warrenty so if it blows up 50k miles from now or 250k miles from now you can get another one as long as you keep the reciept.
