Help! Engine check light came on, first time in all these years and miles. I got a code 41. Can anyone state what it is:confused: Truck runs fine. I got it to go off after is displayed the code repetition with the engine light.

I got a lot of hauling to do this week through Friday :D.

Thanks in advance, Patrick.

According to THIS it is Generator Field Not Switching Properly.
Any prolems maintaining a charge?
Might want to check the voltage with a meter while its running.
I believe the voltage regulator was part of the ECM on the 93's. I hope for your sake it is a loose conncection at the alternator or something like that.

Yes, the charge gauge began reading very low on my way home. It picked up but never made it to normal. The FSM shows code 41 reads: Circuit-Generator Field Control (Charging System). I checked the battery with truck off, it was above 12 volts. Checked engine running 13 volts plus. I checked connections they all felt tight. Do you think it is just a bad alternator?

Patrick.

You should be up around 14 volts with the engine running. You can try getting one of th local parts stores to do an alternator test with it in the vehicle, but they may not be able to tst something as big as these alternators.
Check the voltage at various engine speeds. If it comes up at higher speeds, something is definately wrong. Hopefully it is the alternator. How old is the alternator? It would be easier to swap than the ECM...

Hey guys, I put in a rebuild alternator from Orielly's So far so good, no more check engine light at the battery charging gauge is getting back to the middle. I'll keep y'all posted. Thank you all for all the help. I can always count on TDR !

Patrick.
