Archived ECM flash

I had to replace the ECM on the 99 Ram. Is there an after market programmer that I can purchase to do this, or this a dealer only fix. The truck will not start and the WTS light is flashing.



This truck:

1999 Ram 5. 9 Cummins

1 ton cab and chassis

5 speed

If it's a new (remanufactured) ECM, then it will require initial programming after being installed on the vehicle by a dealer, or it can be done off-the-vehicle by a company with bench-programming capabilities such as Automotive Electronic Solutuons.



A flashing WTS light normally indicates an ECM has not been initially programmed.

Thanks for the reply. I will call AES tomorrow. I purchased the ECM from the local Mopar dealer that only sells parts since the Dodge reorg. several years ago.

I called AES and they said they can only reprogram or repair an ECM, that a blank ECM had to be flashed by the dealer. Had to have the truck towed to the dealer to have this performed. I tried a couple of local shops and they said the same thing. Most shops mentioned Dodge is the only one that this happens with. Ford and Chevy could have been done locally.
