heres the deal a little over a month ago i was driving down the road, and out of nowhere the engine noise got really really loud sounded like it was way over reving. Prior to this happening, about once a week, maby 3 times total i would be driving down the road and out of nowhere i would have no response to the gas pedal, i would put it to the floor and my speed would remain constant at about 20-30mph no increase or decrease, then i would let go of the pedal completely and push down again and it would be fine. i thought it could have been the vp44, the truck has been at the shop for a month maby a little longer, they are saying the codes that came up were injection timing, and another that said the ecm was no good. we havent been able to find a remanufactured ECM and a new one is $1300

and yes ecm's go bad all the time, lots of calls lately for the 99 model

I have had 3 trucks in here in the last month with lost of gauges. . I unbolted the ECM clean the pins and bolted the harness back in place no more problems??? Sound like you where having the dead pedal VP-44?

I think I am having the same issue with my truck. It doesn't matter the speed though. I have replaced the Accelerator Pedal Position Senor(APPS), it seemed to fix the problem for a little while, but the other day while driving down the highway(70-75 mph, cruise control(c/c) on, going up hill) it did it again. I could not get the c/c to shut off by pressing the cancel button on the steering wheel, it would cancel if I pressed the brake pedal. I have not checked for any codes and I do not remember right off hand what the original codes were when I replaced the APPS. I hope that my VP44 isn't going, I just bought the truck a year ago and have rebuilt the transmission, and replaced the APPS, which is not cheap by any means.

If it was the VP going into limp mode you should have been able to hold 50mph. If it was the APPS and "dead pedal" it will drop right to an idle and the pedal does nothing. At least that's what mine did with those two issues. Not sure on yours but it might be the ECM.
