There is a totaled 2001 CTD in a junkyard near me. I have already taken multiple parts off it, and would like to get the ECM. I'm almost positive it's still there, as nobody else has really touched the truck. This is a you-pull-it place too.

Where exactly is it, and how do I pull it out? Pictures would be great. :)

Thanks, Denis

Denis,

I know this doesn't answer your question, but does the truck have a tan interior and still have the ashtray in it?

Like the guys above said. It is located directly below the Fuel Filter canister.

You will need a ractchet with a 10mm socket to remove the 2 bolts on the fuel filter canister. Once that is removed, just let it hang down. The ECM is below. There are 3 bolts holding it on, each are also 10mm. Though before you can remove the ECM, you will need a set of Allen wrenches (I don't remember what size) to disconnect the wire harness. After the wireharness is disconnected, remove the 3 bolts on the ecm (one on the bottom and then one on each side). Now after the ecm is broken loose, it is kind of a pain to get out, you will need to turn it sideways and get it between the fuel lines so that you can then pull it up towards you.

If you can, check for some other good used parts (I. e. Lift pump, maybe a turbo, etc. ). You will probably be able to get them for a smoking deal now and use them later when you need them.

Kev

p. s. E-mail or PM me if you have any questions on the ecm, i've had to take mine out several times... so I have it down to an art now.
