Do our trucks have a computer separate from the ECM? Is there a PCM or another computer that controls the ABS, lights etc?

your 06 has many controllers,you can hook up the star scan and do a module scan itwill let you see them all.

Can somebody look up what is recorded on their ECM, the 'freeze frame' data referred to on another post?

How expensive is this equipment, and could I have a non DC mechanic do a STAR scan on my 05 and tell me what is recorded?

I just bought my 05 and it's still stock and I curious about it's background.

That's cool ,thanks for the offer, but I just drove back from LA when I picked up my 2005! It would give me an excuse to take my CTD on a trip again, though, it was fun driving at 85 plus, the big truck cruises well.

Does it take an elaborate set-up to do or use the Star software? I kind of hesitate to take it to a dealer (got no idea of the history, I bought it off a used car lot I found on the internet) does a regular mechanics shop do it? What do you connect to the OBD port?

The 05 will use an obd11 scanner aftermarket scanners can see freeze frame data if a code was set the factory scanner can see trip info and history as well

Unless you have a factory scan tool like a star scan or drb III you won't be able to really see recorded data unless their was a freeze frame set from a code.
