Anybody have any ideas on an alternate to the $1100 ECM I need? Used or otherwise... ... I am open to any and all possibilities!

Thanks in advance guys!!

There's a couple of outfits that offer "reconditioned" ones - one in Florida gets $495 for them - do an Ebay search for "Dodge Cummins ECM", and they will turn up...

napa will recon your ecm now i just did one its almost $500 with shipping 1 year parts and labor

Good to see more options cropping up - what with the age on these dern electronic controllers, they are about due to start dropping pretty regularly - just wait til summer heat and towing season hits...:rolleyes:#@$%!

I'd bet Gary K7GLD will figure out how to recondition them... just wait till his goes out, we'll hear some real tricks to the trade , just gotta' keep less miles on my truck than his :-laf

OK, I called NAPA and was quoted an outstanding deal. Far less than half the cost of a new one. Now my question is this: How hard is it to calibrate the rebuilt ECM myself? Is it even possible? I was quoted around $300 by the shop to install/calibrate, and whatever else. I am going to go the NAPA route unless I hear back from Bob W. and am looking to save as much cost as I can.

Thnaks for the great ideas guys! Keep it up!

Absolutely NO calibration involved - it SHOULD be a direct replacement for what you already have - and any specific setup info should be included with the ECM. The only thing near "calibration" I can think of, is calibrating the APPS to the ECM, and that is simply (after reconnecting the batteries you DISconnected to install the ECM!) switch on the ignition, but do NOT start the engine, and smoothly, slowly, depress the accelerator 3 times to the floor and return - then switch off, and start the truck - all should be well!

From the Dodge Service Manual...

INSTALLATION:

Do not apply paint to back of ECM. Poor ground will result.

(1) Clean ECM mounting points at engine block.

(2) Position ECM to engine block and install 3 mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to 24 N·m (18 ft. lbs. ).

(3) Check pin connectors in ECM and 50–way connector for corrosion or damage. Repair as necessary.

(4) Clean pins in 50–way electrical connector with a quick-dry electrical contact cleaner.

(5) Very carefully install 50–way connector to ECM. Tighten connector hex bolt.

(6) Install battery cables.

(7) Turn key to ON position. Without starting engine, slowly press throttle pedal to floor and then slowly release. This step must be done (one time) to ensure accelerator pedal position sensor calibration has been learned by ECM. If

not done, possible DTC’s may be set.

(8) Use scan tool to erase any stored companion DTC’s from PCM.

That's the silver looking box that's mounted on the firewall, behind your air cleaner. It has three plugs coming out from it which, incidentally, is where you get the voltage reading for your APPS. :)
