Here it is 6 years and 5 months and 86,000 miles since I bought it or got it.
Have heard most of the problems they have had with it but I haven't had a problem one, except for recalls and of course the finger caught in the pie scenario on the emissions, which took my fuel economy from a steady 30 mpg for the first 10,000 miles down to 22.9 on the best day now. The fuel in oil still runs 5% if I push above the 5,000 mile mark on the oil change, even with the change to 5-40 from the 5-30. At 3,000 miles I will have 2-2.5% dilution. haven't sampled the oil at the 4,000 mile mark but have many times at 3,000, 5,000, 8,000 and the first 10,000 when this all started. Factory claims that I drive to slow, but again compared to my Duramax, I drive it twice the shown average miles per hour that I do the Duramax and it has 0% fuel dilution. Did change the transmission oil (factory oil) and filter (Geno's pan with filter) myself at 80,000. Not to bad, lots of the slimy black slug, whish I had done it at 50,000 and will do it by the 130,000 mark if we are still running.
Has any one received their settlement check on the Eco Diesel yet? Keep checking the settlement web site, states the my check is in process and will be mailed in 6 weeks. Been 10 weeks now since it has shown that. Tried calling all the phone numbers I have and the web site along with the chat on the web site but can't get it confirmed if it has been mailed or cashed?? My luck. Any one can shed some light on anything with the settlement I would appreciate it.

Interesting that now Ford no longer makes a 1/2 ton diesel and ?? on Chevy , so Ram is it and is poor at best!! I can't figure out why Ram has not put the 4BT Cummins into a 1500 , I know at least 4 of my owner friends who have put the 4 cylinder Cummins into 1/2 ton and even 3/4 ton trucks and these doo just fine and are getting 25 to 32 mpg and can do light towing (4500 to 6000 lbs) and are great work trucks, ranching/farming and the like and will go down the highway at the legal speed limit. Is it EPA that Ram FCA and Cummins cannot make this happen?? I would have thought that Toyota would have gotten into this American/ Canada market also, not so and I know they market a Diesel other p laces in the world.
Any thoughts other than mine???

The 4bt is an ancient garbage engine. They are too loud, too heavy and won't even come close to meeting modern emissions. The Ecodiesel in it's current form seems to be pretty darned reliable with only a few problems here and there.......knock on wood.

Toyota cannot compete in the big truck market, try they might. Diesel won't even be on managements radar in my opinion due to the ridiculous complexity required by our government and the fact that Toyota of America seems to be firmly against diesel technology.
 
GM is still building a 3.0 inline 6 diesel for their half tons and a 2.8 4 for the Colorado/Canyon. The technology on both of those engines is SCARY. A wet belt that drives the oil pump with a service interval....and you have to separate the engine and trans to do so :eek:
And thats just the tip of the iceberg.
 
As of now Ford is still offering the F150 diesel. Rumor is they might drop it. All depends on sales. From what I’ve read it’s been a good package just pricy. VW really screwed over the diesel. An now the world has bitten the electric hybrid as the “Answer “ yet no one really knows the whole story how much damage building those batteries does to the environment. Or who is going recycle them which is Currently not cost effective to do.

All I can say is keep ordering the diesel option. Sales numbers speak louder. Might be the only way to keep them around.
 
Govt agencies were zeroed in on eliminating the oil burners long before VW got caught. Cheating may have soured a few greenie type customers but by and large the ones that matter, the ones that click the diesel box, didn't lose much sleep. The biggest kick in the pants was how the govt punished VW and that was by investing in their EV game. But it was coming regardless. It really doesn't matter how clean a diesel is when the goal posts keep moving further and further out.
 
Unless you or someone can figure out how to violate basic laws of Physics, the EV game just wont cut it! I know for fact there are no charging stations on I 80 east to west across Wyoming (400 + miles) or I 25 south to north (300 + miles) with the capacity necessary to charge a work vehicle (interstate truck size battery EV). Just not going to work anytime in the next 10 to 20 years. Nuclear/Electric power is probably a closer possibility to reality and we all know how that will probably NOT go!! And if EPA is still set on doing away with Diesel power vehicles, well I guess we can try and read between the lines here! Maybe we need to try and figure out how to get Nuclear/electric powered passenger and freight hauling aircraft and also Nuclear/electric powered rail trains also. If we can take care of these last two forms of travel and freight movement, that would make a real dent in the carbon footprint, but very few times do you even hear anything about the aircraft and trains.
Just my ramblings here, but as a retired engineer, these things get to me!

Diesel Electric????????? We have that and have had that for over 60 years with the diesel electric locomotives that take our rail freight and passengers, so not new but the manufacturers of of the DE locomotives have made great progress in the carbon footprint area in the last 20 years but are not there yet as I live 2 blocks from the rail yard and at times still see plenty of carbon in the air here! so I do not think this will happen in out light to medium duty trucks any time in the rest of my life (25 years or so I hope). we can thank the EPA and tree huggers.

I know that the media outlets are all reporting that electric vehicles will rule the roads in less than 10 years, but I have my doubts.

You can't "fill" an electric truck in 5 minutes on every street corner in America, nor can you drive an electric truck 500+ miles with a trailer in tow. The infrastructure changes that need to be made in order for EVs to become as convenient as ICE vehicles is enormous and impossible to complete quickly. It will take many years, perhaps decades to get there. And then you have the fact that battery technology just isn't up to par. And what about the power grid? And what about the horrible damage to the environment from solar panels and lithium batteries that need disposal? It's an absolute nightmare, and it's not going to happen in the next 10 years. Sure, the government will try their best to push it, especially under dem control, but it's just not feasible.

I recently traded my 2020 Ram EcoD for a 2021 Jeep Gladiator EcoD. AMAZING truck with amazing fuel economy that pulls my 24' trailer great. I plan to keep it forever, because I'm figuring that a diesel powered Jeep pickup will be collectible one day down the road when nothing like this can be legally sold anymore.....

LOL, sounds like GM design idea. Maybe they can make it look like a reworked Aztec as well. o_O;)

Here it is 6 years and 11 months and 96,280 miles since I bought it or got it and I did get it, MY SETTLEMENT CHECK. After many phone calls, e-mails, faxes (if you can believe they still want faxes) and a 4" thick folder full of papers, but I got it. There is a note on the check to "cash promptly, non negotiable after 4-21-2022". Nothing has changed on the old truck its self as I had reported before, I know it will do the fuel mileage and the oil dilution has not changed for better or worse??? I plan on keeping it to see how it will do for just how long at what cost. Even with all the chintzy things about it, we love the ride, looks, power and room. Will keep this updated as time and mileage moves on.
 
No added value in this post, looks like past owners could have claimed their past truck and got a little bit of a settlement, then the new owner could also get a slightly lower settlement. If this is even the same thing here, I did not do too much digging.

Use say fuel for example and the above larger number, kinda works out to maybe just under 2 years of free fuel on your 22.5 best day numbers very rough numbers $3 a gallon. So lots of variables there.

Glad they got you settled up.

Since you stuck it out, I doubt there was any residual value harmed on the truck with today's prices, even though you plan on keeping it. At the end will probably be a little ahead.
