I bought a Laramie 2WD Crew about 14 months ago. It was to be a tow vehicle for a ~7600lb enclosed trailer. It has done that job really well. Best of all, the ride, handling and noise level is vastly better then the 2000 F-250 it replaced. I took a risk buying it. I wasn't sure how well the little diesel and light duty truck would tow. My only previous experience with Ram had been a '99 1500 that was the worst truck I ever owned. The Ram EcoD is a fabulous tow vehicle.

The other day I looked up resale values. Current trade in for my truck is $37k (MSRP $45k), only a grand less then I bought it for 19k miles ago. I've never seen resale value hold so well. KBB lists private party value at >$41k.

The #'s above ignore the taxes and crap that I had to pay. It really added up to something like $43k.

I'm thinking that in it's 2nd year of ownership maybe I should turn it in for a new one. Maybe I'll do it 30months into it's 3yr warranty. That will get me to the 2017 model year which is when it's scheduled for a refresh.

Ranger - for us folk looking for the "deal" on a used one....the retention in value bites...guess I gotta just wait....

That being said...If I were you and very minimal costs to trade for a new one within 2 years...I'd do it.

Resale value is high, but it may be on the market slightly longer waiting for the *right* buyer due to it being 2wd. From what I've seen, most buyers, particularly of used trucks are looking for 4wd. It's one of the reasons most of the trucks in rental fleets are 4wd. They specifically forbid using them offroad, but they purchase it for when they go to sell it.

Nitan, I'm surprised as heck to see you in my TDR thread. Lol, small world.

Mingoglia, There might be fewer 4WD trucks in my neck of the woods. I'm in coastal GA. Never snows here and there's not much 4 wheeling as a hobby because once you get offroad here, it's all impassible swamp. I regret that I didn't get an LSD rear end tho. I ordered a truck with LSD but it never showed up. I got tired of waiting and bought my truck off of a lot. My fabulous 2017 EcoD will have LSD.

I did end up, last month, talking to a dealer about trading my truck in for a 2015, but they didn't want to give me the available 0% financing so I passed on it.

Fair point. BTW, we'll be neighbors soon. I'm moving from AZ to Roswell, GA on the 17th.

Yeah...small world...i've been reading your experience with the Ecodiesel...and..it definitely has me wanting one...but the ole F150 still runs...so I've got some time to think a bit.

Ah so, that puts you in Atlanta. Savannah is ~5hrs away, depending on how fast a person drives. 80% of the population of GA is probably within commuting distance of Atlanta. Too many people for me.

You will be near the world headquarters of Turbo Diesel Register tho. They are in N. Atlanta.

Well, you should be used to crowded masses of humanity and bad drivers, less of a culture shock. A breakdown ANYWHERE west of the Mississippi would be sign to just stay there.

On the other hand, your 20 minutes form Geno's and an hour from a large Summit Racing warehouse. It has its benefits.
