Strange electrical problem on my Dakota tonight

After hearing everyone go on about how good these carbs are, I broke down and got the 750 cfm version to try out. A few guys at the track are running 11. s with these same carbs on their cars.

Should be fun learning how they work and how to dial them in. I mastered my old 3310 780 Holley. Have a BIG thermalquad on the Cuda now (factory 800+cfm). I never took it apart to play with because it ran so good. I also have seen alot of those thermalquads get tore apart and never run right again regardless of who builds it.

This new Edelbrock performer carb should be a nice item. I will have to see if I can get it on this weekend. I also have to get my MSD 6AL hooked up this weekend, right along with the cheata turbo action shifter... ... man, there never is enough time (or money) for high performance mods!

If any of you guys have ever played with one of these carbs, let me know how it treated you.

Chad, you are really going to like the new carb. If you are much of a mechanic at all you will have it tuned in no time. Good luck and let us know how you like it when you have a few miles on it.

The only experience Bad340Fish and I have with the Edelbrock carbs are taking them off and installing a Holley. I hate how the adjustments are compared to the standard Holley, they have metering rods and springs that are a lot more expensive than Holley jets. Besides that how many people at the track have tuning parts that you can borrow if you forget yours at home?

That was the beauty to me: set it and forget it!
Had one in the early 90's. Sold the engine, kept the carb, it is still on my shelf in the garage. I think it was a 600. manual secondaries, and choke.
Very basic carb, I felt. Had great luck with it. No deadspots, and when you kicked it, it really came on.

I am gonna have to agree with Hiperf360 on this one. Chad I also have a 340 and have figured out it loves accelerator pump shot(something the edelbrock doesn't have). I launh at 3300RPM and have nailed a best of 1. 65 60 ft on a 8. 5 wide slick. The throttle response of a double pumper is matched only by the might cummins lol. I had a edelbrok 750 on a 273 car that i had for awhile. Ran great started great and got good MPG... very good carb. . but not for drag racing. Good luck. . let us know how it turns out.
Oh yeah, Your gonna love that shifter! My Dad has one in his 69 cuda and it is so smooth it feels like its not hooked to the transmission, A Shifter well worth the extra $$

Having been away from them for a while, I can't tell you what's in Edelbrock's kits, but back when they were carters, you could get a strip kit that had 3 different size accelerator pump jets, not to mention the rate, starting, and ending points of the accell pump stroke can all be set.

On the AFB, the jets make a large change... and tuning with the rod sets is necessary... also, the float level must be varied to deal with the "hotness" of the cam, or engine size, so that there's no dead spots in the throttle motion (or rich spots, either) from idle up.

I prefer the old AFB to anything else I've ever tried using... it seems to be a very flexible and versatile carb... though it might not be the ultimate for dragstrip use.
