Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Edge Comp Experts please

I come again to the experts of this site for advice. I love my edge comp.

But I think it has finally given up the goose I have checked all the connections all is good there. The box seems to lock up, the lights will get stuck in whatever position that I leave the level setting. The box will not turn off. the only way to change anything is to unplug the box from the back and re plug the box back in.



I removed the box completely leaving the connections on the engine but the truck ran very poorly and gave me a check engine light. But with the box in place and turned off the truck runs excellent. So here is my Questions.



1. . Should I send the box to edge for repair.

2. . Should I buy a Edge comp.

3. . Should I look at the new Technology like smarty, or the Quadzilla newest and greatest

4. . Anyone have a Edge Comp for a 99 CTD they want to get rid of??



any advice or suggestions Are welcome.

Your box is dead. Send it in if it's under warranty.



I currently run an Edge Juice. But I have also run Smarty, TST, Redline, Quad Adrenaline and the various plug in boxes.



If I did not own the Edge, I would have the Adrenaline. I ran it for about 3 weeks oing some testing. Very nice product with tons of support for the VP crowd. On the fly adjustability and USB downloads for different uses. Just a good piece.

Make sure that both the power and ground have good connections. If your ground is hooked up to the air horn (per Edge instructions), move it to the battery. If you are using some kind of a fuse tap, make sure that has a good connection.



Some versions of the Edge Comp seems to be more sensitive to clean power then others. If you do end up sending it back to Edge, have them do a Drag Comp upgrade.

Send it to Edge, they will usually fix it & update it to the newest software for free. Then sell it & buy a Adrenaline with Pulse. You won't be sorry.
 
It does sound like time to send it in. I had a problem with my juice/attitude and they fixed it and reflashed with the newest program free of charge. It was way out of warranty. They will call you if it can't be fixed and offer a new or refurb for a greatly reduced price. Some people don'e like their products, but they have the best customer service I've ever seen for this kind of stuff! And I'll take a good product with great CS over a great product and poor CS. If you do send it in and with living in Alaska Do not get the drag comp upgrade.



Edge has had a problem with the drag comp for several years and can't figure it out. I worked with them for about 2 years and tried everything and sent about 6 drag comps back and forth with no fix.



Once the temp gets below around 40ish degrees farenheit they will not always power up or turn on. You have to cycle the key a couple times and or wait for temp in cab to warm unit up. I had a couple that would turn on but would not send power to the vp44 until it warmed up.



With the addition of my HPVP44 I rarely use the comp anymore except to compete. It runs as good on the HR pump alone now as the stock pump did on comp setting 2-3.
 
OK update.
Talked with a very nice man at edge he said no problem they will fix it for free. after a communication error as to how it was to be shipped TO them we finally got it there. I did not get the Comp upgrade. a few weeks later I got the box back. the face was still dissembled from the body that is OK I put the 2 screws back in and secured the face to the body I went out to the truck plugged it in and checked all the sublevels all the lights worked and and I could tell by the sound of the cummins that the box was back in play. Of course I wanted to know if I still had the power/speed that I had before so I test drove the truck playing with the different levels to warm the Box up. very subtle difference in the 5 levels ???? set the box on 5X3 with level 3 set to 3 something I read on tdr years ago? but this always seemed to be my sweet spot for the truck I could make 40PSI boost right now with that setting and have all the power I need I was very happy with the old box till it quit. Now I set all different settings and I can barley make more than stock boost about 5 psi more. I am not happy at all with this free repair. I work remote in Alaska and night shift so it is hard to deal with EDGE I have not had an opportunity to discuss this with them it almost feels like an edge EZ now?? I was very Happy with my Edge comp and my truck configuration I just wanted the truck to run like it did before. As Always I Welcome input and suggestions. once again Edge was very helpful I just did not get what I wanted.

This is because the MAP sensor T-connector breaks the connection to the ECM. The Comp has to be installed for this to work, or you have to disconnect the Comp harness from the MAP sensor to get the truck to run normally, without the Comp installed.

How much boost with the box off vs. level 1x5 vs. level 5x5?



If one makes more boost than off, but 5 does not make any more than 1, then the pump tap wire is not connected or has a bad connection. Every now and then mine will vibrate loose and I have the same thing. No more power in 5 than 1, and 1 is just a bit more than stock.
 
Twice I had to send my Comp back because the wire tap feature quick working. When this happens you will get a lag in power on take off and notice the truck will not make any smoke even if you floor it at low rpm. The 1-3 settings still worked just fine like an EZ but settings 4-5 were dead.
