Help my 1998 dodge 2500 4x4 is not running. I installed an edge comp everything works fine level 1 everthing fine ,level three everything fine, level five everything fine and a big grin to boot then halfway through gears engine dies. Will not restart, disconected edge comp still no start, then checked fuses all are fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Zachery Hamilton

Hope I'm wrong but it may be that you VP44 (fuel injection pump) died. Early 24v (98 and 99) have a history of doing this when you hook up a major fuel box. Legend has it that if your VP44 is going to die, it will in the first 30 min after you hook up the wire and make a few hard runs... ... ... Here's a good article on VP44 failures www.bluechipdiesel.com/Bosch-VP44.htm

hope I'm wrong:(

The same thing happened when we installed an Edge Comp on a 98. 5 2500. The VP44 died. We found a new pump by going to a Bosch dealer fround at boschservice.com for $1200. The prices vary from dealer to dealer so check around.

We installed the new pump and everything is fine, also the bosch dealer sid that the new pump has improved alot since they were first in installed in 98.

You do not show if you have a fuel pressure gauge . start from the begining as if truck just stoped and check as you would if normal situation ,Fule in tank ,filter ok fule drain , fule getting to injectors , Throdel , sensors , electrical , fuse ,relays fuseable link. and check with this board for more things to check before you spend big bucks . wish you luck . Ron in Louisville metro ?,KY:confused: :( P. S add a signiture and is you truck 12v or 24v auto or stick new or old lift pump?

Guys,

thanks for the replys. I just got off of the phone with the edge tech line. I told them the scenario, and all they had to say was You just fried your pump, sorry about that, let us know if you need any thing else. I was hoping they could have pointed out something simple I was overlooking . But that is all they had to say. Called Harry at Piers Diesel. And found out that the 011 pump found on the 98 and 99 24v's are Notorious for this They said 10 to 20 percent of these pumps will die if a fueling box is used. I wish I had known that yesterday that there was a 10 to 20 percent chance that I was going to spend another $1500 on the truck. Oh well time to pay the fiddler. That will be the Last time I use an Edge product. On a lighter note thanks to Piers and Co. for their outstanding service and Technical support. They are always willing to go the extra mile.

Thanks,

Chase

It's not Edge's fault. Any other box of the same type, from any manufacturer would have done the same thing. The problem lies in the Bosch early pumps, not with the boxes.

Do your homework before any major upgrade, it will end up saving you a lot of money and aggravation. I was one of the lucky one my 98 pumps as held up for over 30K miles with the comp hooked up.

Bombing is a high risk game:D

What BFC said....

Don't blame Edge! Chances are pretty damn good that your pump would have went (. )(. ) up when you connected ANY major fueling box, regardless of the manufacturer... ... ;)

I am not at all Blaming the Comp box, It did what it was advertised to do. And in the past I have always heard good Things about Edge products. I am however dissatisfied with the tech support from Edge . And yes I know there is always a risk involved when you modify an engine. And again thanks for the replys.

Texas- What more did you expect out of Edge's tech support??? You gave them the symptoms and they told you what was wrong, there is nothing more they can do. If there was a problem with your comp box they would have fixed it ASAP. Its a well known fact (on the TDR at least) that the early VP44's will either blow up or last forever when you hook any fueling box to em. You got the short end of the stick on that one and for that I am sorry, but Edges Tech support had nothing to do with it and Edge makes an great product.

Good luck getting your truck repaired and welcome to the TDR.

Midwest Dually - once the wire on the pump is pierced you are your own warranty station. The dealers are now trained to look for the tell tale signs of a fueling box.

Well,, Looks like you need a VP44. BUMMER. $1,200, sweet deal !! Dealer installed a new VP44 in my truck under warrenty and Charged DC $1,800 for pump only!!

Time to hook up a DRAG COMP with a Blue Chip Pump cover! Then run some HUGE injectors,, and a BIG Turbo (or two :D ),, pop a nice clutch in it,, and let that Cummins Roar!

(Don't forget to run a pusher pump, or, take off or bypass the stock lift pump and put a high flow low pressure pump by the fuel tank on the frame. ) Confused?

I'ce been running 30+PSI on my VP44 for atleast 8,000 miles (not recommended by most TDR members, and Bosch :) )

I'm out to prove you CAN do it. (Like my stacks :D )

Have fun,,

You are MADMAN, MC ;) . What they heck are you running to provide 30+ FP ??? As you probably know, I'm one of the low psi advocaters. LOL, now I have a pump that spikes to 25 psi on a regular basis.

Two Carter Pumps,, the rear pump WAS Set @ 7 PSI, but the regulator went out, and it went up to 15PSI, I tested my pressures when I was at Thunder in Muncie and I was getting 40PSI on Prime, 35 PSI @ idle, and at the time couldn't pull it below 25 PSI,, I probably can pull it down now, but my F. P. sender went out. I guess I should check it and let yall know. :)

I've got two 15 PSI pumps in series, with -6AN SS Braided line.

Actually it's Piers Harry, I know it fools all of us! You will always get to notch service from them.

Pull the box off and take it too the dealer, what are they going to do deny to fix it... ... ... big deal!
