I just got my Edge Comp installed, and oh boy is this thing gonna get me in trouble and I haven't even installed the DDIIs yet. :D ;) :D  . At around 65mph in 5th gear at setting 5, I floored it and on wet pavement truck got loose  :D . I can't wait to get the DDIIs in, but I will have to wait until tomorrow for the weather to clear. Hopefully the 4" exhaust will be here next weekend. I guess I will be calling South Bend sooner than I thought, cause it will be tough not to play with the new toy  .

I got the Injectors and Edge Comp from Piers of course:D

You're in deep doo doo now. First, you just stepped off a cliff - don't let anyone tell you BOMBing is just a "slippery slope" and second, you're 6 months away from spring and dry pavement :D I lived in Lansing for 3 years - you're gonna have no fun at all, better move south ;)

Crew cab, told you you'd love the Comp box!. You need to get a fuel pressure guage hooked up now,With DD2's you will bottom the fuel pressure out near or at zero with a healthy lift pump, which is fine,as long as yours is healthy. If its weak, your VP44 wil be pulling for fuel, this is when you can hurt it. On the bombing fun, your done now, once bombitis sets in,THERE IS NO CURE. Hide your wallet and credit card from yourself, temptation will prevail, and you'll end up like me,fast, smokey truck, empty wallet:D .

Snowman,

all gauges are in, got white face DiPricol in a 3 pillar mount & a Westech gauge next to the 4X4 shifter. Lift pump was going south (8psi at idle, 3 psi at WOT), so installed a new one today before adding the edge comp. If I get time tomorrow will install the DDIIs and check valve lash while I am there. I have got a 4" stainless steel exhaust system from Banks coming next week( yea I know what some of you guys are saying, but I am getting Banks bolt on quality SS 4" turbo to tail is $659), mean time the muffler kinda fell off:rolleyes: I do intend to add a pusher pump next spring, thanks to Steve and the guys at enterprise, it sounds like a bolt on must have.

Yee Ha!

CrewCabDiesel – You will like the Banks exhaust. We have it on our truck and it has a nice deep throaty sound. You will definitely like the DD injectors. I was going for II’s and then at the last moment chickened out – I got the III’s. I have good EGT hauling our camper (a little less than 1200 degrees max up good long grades with the Comp set on 2/1). The CTD doesn’t smoke much at all except from a standing start with the pedal to the metal. Of course all bets on all of the above with the Comp on 5/5. I think your comment was most appropriate – Yee Ha! :D

Just to give you an idea, I also have a comp and DD II's on an ETC. I dyno'd 435 hp and 882 ft-lb. Smokes a little until the boost comes up, then you're gone! And I thought I'd be done with the EZ...

Bombs Away!

Well got the DDIIs in and more power:D , But when I turn on the Edge Comp the clutch won't hold past setting 2:( . I guess that I will be changing out the clutch sooner than I thought. Does anyone know how to check the condition of a clutch WITHOUT removing it ? And has anyone else seen the same thing ? Also what power levels is a stock clutch rated for ?

Kyle

CrewCab,

I have seen several numbers for the stock clutches. The highest that comes to mind is 850 lb ft. Remember though, each clutch seems to have its own personality. I don't make 850 lb ft and I have slippped mine several times. Currently I am the opposite of you. I have Stage 3 injectors and no box. YOu can see my numbers in my sig.

But when I turn on the Edge Comp the clutch won't hold past setting 2

My clutch held as long as I didn't rod it. But, when I turned the comp to nuclear the clutch would slip. I slipped it once, just to see if the clutch would hold. When I pulled out the OEM clutch and put in the South Bend Con OFE the stock clutch looked new. If you aren't ready to change out the clutch, you could just keep the comp turned off until later.

Well just got off the road and want to let you all know about the mileage.

Before the injectors I was getting 14. 5mpg at 75mph

with the DDIIs (comp box off)I am getting 20. 8mpg at 75mph

This is driving the same route with the same stops.

with the current fuel prices I figure the Edge Comp & DDIIs will be paid for in under 20K miles:D :D . Of course that doesn't include the new clutch that I will have to get because of the bombs:rolleyes: .

Does anyone know how to set up a Comp box to get really good mileage ?

Kyle

Did you get that number by calculating the mileage or going off of the mileage computer? The reason I ask is because that's an incredible difference in mileage and I haven't heard of anyone getting nearly that much of an increase with injectors. 1-1. 5 mpg is more in line. The overhead computer bases it's mileage off of factory fueling and doesn't know anything about any increased fueling that you add via injectors, box, etc.

Expanding on what Steve sez, running my Comp on 2x3, 80 mph up to my folks place in Idaho - a round trip of about 1400 miles, my trip computer was 1 mpg optimistic on fuel consumption - it claimed I was getting 20. 5, when a careful actual calculation of miles vs distance said I really got 19. 5... Still not too bad at the speeds I was traveling...

The 20. 8 is off the trip computer, but also add to that I just changed out the lift pump too. I will get mileage readings the old fashioned way to conferm, but I don't think the trip computer is too far off, there is a marked difference in fuel useage and I hope to see more MPG with dialing in the Edge Comp and the 4" S. S. exhaust when it gets here. I know I will not get the mileage of my 1st gen crew cab, but low 20s would be nice.

Kyle

My mileage is 30%off

I checked my mileage with the computer after the StageIII and the comp box and the mileage is about 30% off. I had Stage I's and the comp and the stock clutch wouldn't hold on 4/5 or above. I went to the FE and was waiting on the III's after i got the clutch installed. My stock clutch looked like it had plenty of wear left, but the metal was blued in several places from the heat.
