I just ordered the Edge Comp box for my stock, auto 1999 CTD... other than gages, straight pipe exhaust and K&N filter in the factory box, the truck is stock on the engine side.

I have been searching the past thread's related to the Edge box's... I'm looking to upgrade power for towing and hauling.

I am a bit nervous about what I have found during the searches regarding pump failures if the "tap wire" is connected.

Can anyone give me any advice on what I should connect / do, or not do related to upgrading to the Edge Comp box?

It's my daily driver and I need for it to remain reliable... Just looking for a bit more power on the hills with the Lance and Boat in tow...

Also... what should I be looking for Temp wise with the box installed [Trans / Piro]?

What are the MAX temp's that are safe to run and for how long?

Thanks again for the excellent site and resource... The TDR has and it's members have been outstanding!

The pump dieing after the wire being " taped" has nothing to do with the Edge box it could happen with any fueling enhancement box that "taps" the pump wire. The chances are little greater that an early production pump will die after the box install, but mine had lived so far 112k and going, you might want to consider bigger injectors to run for daily driving and towing and use the box for "play" it is up to you.

You will probably not want to run box on the upper levels any way do to it being hard on the auto till you upgrade in some way. You can just plug box in and NOT tap the wire for now and it will act like an ez and tap the wire later if you need more hp.

EGT's - less than 1250 should be good for some time over that spend as little time as possible there.

Good Luck

Thanks very much for the advice and information... I will be installing the box tomorrow and will let you know the results.

Thanks again.

I am putting a Wildcat max fuel flow system on mine, and seriously considering a fuel additive to boot. My clutch upgrade is going in next month, followed by a pump tapping ceremony!

Then I figured a prayer or two wouldn't hurt.

I think Keith (DD) suggested running that comp/ufm on level 1 for a while, then 2, then 3---possibly giving the VP some time to "get used to" it's new parameters and possibly not frying it right off the bat.

I wouldn't go over level 3 for a couple of days--don't worry you'll LIKE it there.

And what cooks trannies/clutches is heavy throttle down low. If you can wait until 2000rpm before you put it to the floor, the driveline will be happier.

All that being said, some VP's and trannies survive, some don't.

BE SURE to check with us (the TDR) on replacement pumps if you need one. Prices do vary.

ENJOY!

I guess I am a lucky one. I tapped mine the day I got it. 5x5 first run. 40,000 miles later with the stock transmission all is fine. I did change my transmission fluid about every other oil change a few times to check on her. She is fine... . Thankfully. I am seriously debating a set of MACH III's. I just want to see if it'll hold... . ;)

Well Piston Slapper... I hope I'm as lucky as you! I installed the Comp box this AM... and what can I say, but all smiles!! I still can't get over the difference in the way she drives and feels now. I have only driven a little bit thus far, and haven't gone above level 3 with the sub setting at 5.

I am anxious to see how she pulls with a load on. Speaking of which, what setting should I keep it at empty or towing... thought I would keep it at level 2 towing and maybe 3 empty?

Is that asking to much... and yes, I tapped the fuel wire when installing.

Thanks again... and yes, all of you are right: this bombing is very addicting...

We'll, she just died... after only 1 day at level 2 and 1 hour drive time, while accelerating onto the highway she quit and won't turn over... any suggestions... my wife is saying I told you so.

If it is the fuel or lift pump and it's replaced, will the Edge box cause it to fail again?

I wasn't running her hard, actually... more milder than ususal as I wanted to see how it would take to the truck.

HELP!!!!

the newer VP44's are more reliable than the earlier version. But there is a certain serial number that is proven to be better.

It won't fire and run or it won't crank over at all?? I just going by what you have posted above they could be two different problems. Sorry to hear of the problem

Craig

Thanks all for the help... it will crank over but not fire... check engine light is on... the lift pump primes for a long time before stopping ... the when you crank, she just keeps turning over and over... . is it not getting fuel from the lift pump or is the fuel pump DOA?

Edge said to prime the pump and bleed out the air and try starting it again... . How do I do that?

A little late now, beut where can I get a fuel preasure guage?

Down and out in Manteca... .
