I miss the turbo cool down feature of my Edge with Attitude on my 2004. Has anyone put on a Edge CTS or CS? I don't think I need more power, but sure would like the cool down feature.

I have the CTS and love it! In order to have the turbo cooldown you must buy an additional part for it to work with the CTS. I have mine programmed to shutdown at 450 degrees pyro temp. Also, I really like knowing when the truck is in regen status.

Don,

Since the turbo is cooled by engine coolant in all ISB6. 7 engines cool down is probably not even required.

I allow cool down to 400* out of long habit but it would probably make little difference if I shut down asap unless I had just pulled a steep grade with my fifthwheel on the hitch.

I think lots of owners are not even aware of the need to cool the turbo as we learned to do with the 5. 9s and many others don't bother with it.

Harvey, there is a cool down recommendation chart in the 20123 Manual, if I recall about 3 minutes when towing flat ground, up to I think 4 minutes just after pulling a grade.

Ron,

Yeah, I know. It is the standard guidance that has been in every Dodge-Cummins owners manual at least since the '01 models when I first bought one.

The cooldown recommendation varies from five minutes after full load full throttle operation down to one minute in light duty light operation around town driving.

I have always had gauges and always allowed a cool down to 300* on my '01, 350* on my '06, and 400* on my '08 ISB6. 7 which corresponds to the guidance in minutes in the owner's manual.

I know that many owners allow no cool down and have not reported turbo bearing failures. I suspect that no cool down would be okay with the 6. 7 turbo with water cooled bearings under light operation and a couple minutes under full load and full throttle operation.

I don't recommend no cool down and choose to cool mine down but I'm not sure it is really necessary.

When I had my 2005, I had gauges, when towing I always let get down to 350 before shut down, the 6. 7 has no gauges, so I just let it sit for 2 minutes after towing, if real warm out, or pulling a grade maybe a little longer, when empty, and that isn't often, I just shut it off, did this with the old one, never a problem
