I have an Edge EZ on my 3500 CTD with 206,000 miles on truck. I pull a 36 ft 5th wheel and having the Edge EZ gives me the extra hp I want for towing. On a trip in October 07 I noticed a surge in 5th gear on upgrades on the Interstate. Upon arrival home took off the Edge EZ and returned to Edge to be check as to their request. Edge found nothing wrong and returned to me. I reinstalled on truck and made a trip to Florida the month of January. Found that I still had the surge so removed the Edge and made the return trip home with no surge. My thinking is that have a fuel problem,I have 14 to 16 pounds of fuel pressure on the fuel gauge. My questiion is do I need to have my injectors cleaned and checked?I had thought of putting RV275's in but am not really wanting the extra hp that will I think lead to more upgrades. I am well satisfied with the extra hp that the Edge EZ gives me when towing if I can just clean up the surge.

I can not answer your specific questions, but after 206,000 dosen't the engine deserve a new set of injectors. and yes i would slap the 275s right in there. :)

Hmmm. . My TTPM (same as the Edge EZ w/ less timing) doesn't seem to surge at all with RV275 injectors.
FYI - I ran DD1 injectors with a Van Aaken box for about 80k miles without clutch problems. That included towing and pulling grades. It was the pilot bearing that eventually failed. DD1's are slightly more powerful than RV275s, and the Van Aaken is similar in power to the EZ.

I doubt if you will have clutch problems if you add the 275 inj's as long as you don't abuse it.

As far as the surging goes, the problem sounds like it is in the box, not your injectors (obviously just a guess). Might get worse with bigger injectors.

Seen a EZ & 275s slip a stock clutch so beware! How many miles on your VP? My truck had 198k miles on the OEM VP & I started experiencing the same surge you describe while towing. I replaced my VP & the surge went away. Not sure if it's your problem, but it worked for me fwiw.

I experienced some surging and the culprit was a clogged fuel filter. This was during the changover to ULSD and the filter had only about 3000 miles on it. Another problem I think was the 5er "chucking". With that said how do you like the Demco glyde ride? Is it worth the money?

Thanks, George

Fuel filter not the culprit had less than 100 miles on it. Not trailer chucking for will not surge with Edge EZ off. Thats one reason bought the Demco. The wife and I think well worth the money for the smoother ride

Of the boxes I tried on my '01 HO (the non-wire piercing variety), I thought the EZ was the crudest and least refined of them all. Too much timing, surging/uneven power curve. I was most impressed with the original 1999 vintage van Aaken, followed by the 2nd generation van Aaken. This was all several years ago so can't comment/compare on newer boxes.

After 200,000 miles the original injectors could definitely use refreshing or rebuilding, they're past their prime. You'd like the RV275s! Just drive with care. . . ;)

That's an interesting observation. I had one of the vintage Van Aakens on my '99. Sold it at a huge loss(those things were expensive when they first came out) and replaced it with an EZ. Couldn't tell the difference. The only difference was my empty wallet. Either one wakens up a stock truck and breathes fire into larger injectors. Can't go wrong with either.

I think part of the deal was my truck being an HO. There have been a number of other guys complain of the EZ not being as compatible with the HO. My gripe was the power came on suddenly instead of a linear fashion like the vA. The EZ was stronger, and had the integral boost fooler unlike the vA. Seems the vA was around $500 when it came out, Ted Jannetty did a group purchase back in '99.

The serging might be your Vp going bad. Mine started surging with the EZ running. then developed intermittent dead peddle then it puked.

Yeah, that might have been it. Mine was a Ca SO. The 47re started slipping immediately upon installation of injectors. ::{ That led me to $4,000 in DTT upgrades. My neighbor's going on nine trouble-free years with his Van Aaken and extra boost fooler he's got spliced in there. That's why I went up to the EZ,it included the built in fooler. Expensive upgrades. Ouch!

I've got a used EZ on the way for my HO. Do you think I'll have the surging or crappy power curve with mine since I switched to the SO pump?
