I just got the new Edge EZ for the 2003 Dually. All I can say is WOW!!!!! I called Fred Swanson , www.desertdieselparts.com , And he had one on his truck and said it was great. I had him order one up for me too. I got it on Thursday and put it in yesterday. EGT's are still real low. I hauled a 12000 lb John Deer on a 6600 lb gooseneck and it was great. I could only hit 1200* if I try real real hard. That was pushing it in 4th on a steep grade @ 55 mph. It goes through the gears like butter now. The install was super easy, 2 plugs on top of the intake manifold. He also has a replacement air filter coming that will help with EGT's too. He even told me about an airbox replacement he is working on..... Says," I can't wait for AFE to get it done. I might even be able to talk him into a group purchase if enough are interested.
There is only one way to run an EZ..... WFO. Yes, Level four. Like I said, I could only hit 1200* WOT on a steep grade in fourth gear. That was pushing it from 1500 to 2200 rpm's. I still need to install the boost elbow. I will report if that helps with EGT's. Greg
No not a million, barely even a thousand. Just know what works and what I want. EZ is removed in two moves. Not to worried about warranty anyway. Its a Dodge and they charge for service if that is what you can call it.
Got a bud that did the same thing, his truck had 60 miles on it when he installed a DD box, sounds like the two are about the same. He called me last night to tell me about the truck and how it already spanked a Powerstroke he did one of those 3rd gear 4 wheel lanches on wet pavement to get a 4 truck starting advantage. Truck is a S/W, 4 Door, 4x4, H. O. 6 Speed.
I am going to wait for the Comp to come out. This EZ is darn close in power to what the last generation Comps were. So the Comp for the 2003 should be real nice over 800 ft. lb any way :--)
Someone mentioned to me recently that the boxes beyond the plain EZ for the 3rd gens tend to mess with the fuel rail pressure, and that he didn't think that was such a good idea. I'm sure when the other boxes mature more, there will be a good market for a used EZ still.
Please feel free to treat the above as rumor or hearsay, I can't and won't back it up as I don't know enough about the boxes yet. . I was just told this by someone who I think should know.
I've been quiet on this, because what I've heard is unsubstantiated. I heard that the Comp for the '03s were not going to raise the rail pressure and that you wouldn't have to tap any wires. Just plug and play. Well that is what I was told, I guess we will find out soon enough.
I hope so. Like I said, my claim is also unsubstantiated, it just came from a reputable source and raised a red flag in my mind. By the time I buy a box, I bet the comp will be out and I can make up my mind with some facts. .
