Pondering an EZ box, have a few questions!

1) Will my truck smoke any after EZ. Dont really want smoke so be honest!

2) Should I install boost elbow, Ive heard some do and some dont! Why? And for what reason?

3) Any thing in particular to watch out for. (other than the transmission)

4) With only 8,400 miles on the ol' girl, should I wait to install it until more miles are accumulated?

5) Will I see any mileage increase?

6) Should I just forget about the edge alltogether and go a different route? I am pretty content with the power stock, just want a little more go when towing! ???PowerPuck???

1. Yes, it likely will smoke a little more, but depending on what injectors you have and what turbo, it might be very little more than what you have now, to quite a bit more. If injectors and turbo are stock, the EZ on the mild and middle setting won't smoke too much more, the highest setting it will smoke a bit on take off from a standing start, but not too much.

2. Yes, install the boost elbow. What it does is allows the boost to bleed off before it hits the wastegate, but not any going into the intake of your engine. So, even though the EZ fools the ECM into never thinking it sees more than 20 PSI regardless of the amount of boost really going into the engine, if you do not install the boost elbow, your wastegate will still mechanically limit you to the same 20 PSI. I learned this from personal experience, as my EZ didn't come with a boost elbow, and I had never heard of such a thing, so I posted here asking why I still couldn't get more than 20 PSI with my EZ and DD3's. A Washington TDR member (John Wagner I think) was kind enough to send me a boost elbow for free, and as soon as I installed it... voila! 32 PSI :D

3. Again, if the truck is currently bone stock, you should be ok with the EZ on the mild or middle setting with very little harm to the transmission. The highest setting is I think something like 60 or 65 HP, so even that won't kill your transmission right away.

4. Do it now!! :) I did DD3's and my EZ at ~12K miles. I have known at least a few TDR folks that did DD3's, EZ and turbo upgrades as soon as the truck drove off the dealers lot.

5. You should. No guarantees, but the EZ and other fueling/timing boxes will optimize your fueling characteristics at least a little over stock. I gained 1. 5 to 2 MPG when I added my DD3's and EZ.

6. I am not very familiar with the PowerPuck, but I seem to recall it is a fueling box only, as opposed to the Edge product line, which alter fueling AND timing. One further consideration. All the Edge products are also boost foolers, and I do not know if the PowerPuck does that. As I explained in 1 above, a boost fooler "clips" the signal from the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor to the ECM (Engine Control Module) so regardless of how much boost you are actually pushing into your engine, the ECM never "sees" more than 20 PSI from the MAP sensor. If you go with any sort of box that does not act as a boost fooler, and you do push more than 20 PSI, your ECM will set a code and your check engine light will glare at you.

Hope this helps.
