Kieth,

I think I'm working up the guts to drill pre-turbo! From what I read (hear) greasing the drill and fishing around with a magnet is enough to get the shavings out. I did see one guy who loosened the turbo housing and inserted a piece of cardboard. Once moved I would expect to see those numbers jump by 300 to 400* or so. I will update soon as I hope to do it this weekend, travel permitting.

I know I'm coming in a little late here, but is this secret lvl 5 on the boxes for the 04 trucks too or just on 03 boxes.

Brandon

Not sure, from what I've seen here Edge phased it out on later model boxes. I purchased my box back in August of 03 and it still seems to have it. I set the jumper for it and it does have more kick, so far no ill side effects.

It doesn't matter on the year of the truck. It has to do with the production date of the box

BPENROD---- I would like to see the diagrahm of the high pressure fuel rail and pop off valve. I 'm wondering if this valve has a spring and it pops off easier after the initial opening how would you repair?(replace spring everytime it happens. ) And it seems like if the pop-off valve did open it would disperse the fuel back into the tank instead of dumping it out and letting it blow back(Pollution problem).

Ehosmer,

The drawing show more where it's located and not so much how it works. They make no mention of replacing a spring, just the unit as a whole. Here is their replacement procedure:

Thoroughly clean area at pressure limiting valve.

Remove banjo bolt (FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR/FUEL PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE) at banjo fitting.

Remove pressure limiting valve from fuel rail.

The word in () are a link to the picture I have. It is too big to attach here but I could e-mail it if you like.

Hey, all you guys running with an Edge EZ, what can you tell me about your MPGs with the EZ compared to w/out? I'm looking for a way to increase my MPGs. If I can bump up my efficiency and get more power when I need it I'll do it.

while towing on the highway cruise set at 70,same trailer same load(give or take 200lbs). I get 2-3 mpg more. figuring it myself not the computer. problem is it runs so much better when not towing I run it,so all gains are gone,LOL

given that these pressure boxes are just providing a bigger squirt of fuel with no timing or duration changes I've pondered the reason why there is a fuel economy advantage. Probably it relates to the fact that you can stay at lower rpms. 3 mpg seems awfully optimistic for just a pressure increase.

one other factor may (interestingly enough) be EGTs -- hotter is better in terms of efficiency (basic thermodynamics of heat engines). maybe the Edge box runs things that much hotter.

But if you say towing at 70 mph you get this advantage, then it can't be rpm related. where else could this increase in efficiency coming from?

Well peer dieselhaulics here's another chapter in the ineptitude of the local DC wrenches. Got my rig back tonight and took the route home where I could get on the Interstate to you know employ WOT to test the replacement of my leaking fuel return line replacement which took 5-days for parts to arrive and to repair. Well when I arrived at my abode my 14 year old slid under the truck and announced she's still leaking diesel !!! I slid under the truck beside him and we started to try to find the source. It was dripping from the area of the inspection plate for the flywheel where it's dripped from the onset. Found some fuel along the rear of the fuel rail but not alot. Still think it's coming from somewhere behind the head, As knowledgeable people from the forum have stated it's probably the pop-off valve from the rail. Well tommorow we will arrive at 8:00 and confront the service advisor, I quess I will give him my opionion of where the problem is this time. This Will be the Third time I've Had my beloved in the shop for the same problem. Wish me luck !!!!

I think, gains are from, more power at less throttle. but I did go from 10-11 to 12-13 mpg towing. of course I tow this trailer in the winter so mpg would probably go up in the summer months,IMHO.
