I am in the marketr for a little more power and definately more mileage. I am thinking of a Edge EZ or a Bully Dog Power Pup with Outlook. WHat are your thopughts on either of these combinations. Oh yeah IF i get the EDge I will still get the Outlook. 2005 3500srw auto

Welcome to the TDR :D

I have heard good things about the Pup... I have the EZ and have been running that for about 28k miles with no problems. I would buy the EZ again.

I am also runnin the Edge box for now. I tried out my buddies Pwr. Pup the other day. WOW! I like it a LOT more. Has a bunch more power! For the price get the PUP! But, watch it if you have a 6spd! 5th gear starts to slip hard on the extreme setting.

Clayton  I see in your signature you have a edge box with juice. I thought the edge with juice was not out yet for the 03 & 04 model years. Thank for any Info. coobie :D

Just my anal auto transmission . 02

I would stick with the Edge EZ. It would probably be a good idea to change your air intake out for a Scotty or AFE system and loose the factory muffler and maybe even the cat. Your transmission is your weak link, but will safely handle the Edge EZ on the 4 setting for regular running and "lite" towing. If you are towing heavy, invest in an EGT gauge and keep the Edge at level 2, for your transmission's sake. Your 600/10 is going to run hot, due to the EPA stuff Cummins had to do to make them happy. We have the same problems with the newer EPA emmision semis, they run way hot.

The Pup is fun, but there is no way I would have put it on my truck with a stock auto transmission, but that is just me. If you are looking to drop some coin and fix the transmission to handle some HP, look at ATS, DTT or BD-Power. Just another . 02

My thoughts are to get the outlook box for either option, so i will have egt. And with that I can also turn down the power of the pup, until i decide if i want to do anything else to beef up the system. I have been thinking about this for about two weeks and it is a hard decision to make, I just want to make the right one. Another draw towards the pup is the prospect of being able to plug it into the computer to download updates sometime in the future. Thanks for the replies and keep em coming.

Keith,

I would not rely on the outlook for accurate readings. There is a another post from yesterday, here or over at DTR, complaining of bad EGT readings out of the outlook. I would go with one of those old fashioned gauges for more accurate readings.

sold my truck

I had to trade in my truck for a more fuel efficent car *TDI Jetta* but I did manage to take out my BD DL and put it back to stock. I figure I'll just sell the DL to someone else. I used it with a stock auto for 10k miles with NO problems what so ever. This was on the Performance setting. I wish I would have had time to take out my guages but I didn't get around to it :(

I have the pup DL and the Outlok, plus I have the old fashion gauges. I would not have the gauges if I had gotten the Outlook first. I like the Outlook and it's functions. The quality has me a little concerned, but not enough that I regret my decision. The EGT's seem inacurate at low temperature levels, but reliable at the 600 degree plus levels. I say this because my Dipricol dial gauge is now after the turbo and it reads about 250 less than the Outlook before the turbo. Also, the Outlook has a much quicker response time than my Dipricol did when first mounted before the turbo. I like this and I use the Outlook's alarm (defueling) setting that you can select. I use 1250.

The Outlook will also let you have in-cab adjustability of power, though I don't understand totally how it works. Probably it's adjusting the percent of the program of the pup download, from 0 - 100%. ex. load the performance and set the Outlook at 0% and you are still operating at stock, I think. It's adjustable in 25% increments.

One word of caution on the Outlook, constructive criticism really. The quality could be better. The joy stick does not work very well on mine. You have to play with it some to get it to work, and it's nearly impossible to do much display changes while moving because the joystick doesn't work well and the truck is bouncing around, a little, even on the freeway. The wiring plug in the back is a joke. You might have to be inventive to get it to stay plugged in, particularly if you don't have a straight shot at the connection. My Outlook has a bug on recording high EGT. I understand BD has a fix, but I haven't followed up on it. And, my biggest complaint is that there are no explanations for any of the displays or adjustments (ex. power level). The instructions say it's self explanatory, but, they weren't counting on someone buying it with my relatively low level of intelligence.

I like the pup. I rarely, very rarely, stomp on the pedal because I know my stock tran could be damaged. Particularly in Performance and 100% (once so far for about two seconds). It's nice to know it's there though in case I get challenged sometime.

I've also check mileage every tank for the last 11,000 miles. I ran 5 tanks in tow download, 100%, and if anything saw a . 5 mpg decrease in mileage though the change corresponded with possible winter diesel blend and a change to stock tires for winter from my 315's. I'm on Performance download now and will run it for 5 tanks or more, then make a decision on what program to normally run.

Can't speak for the EZ. Wait for the Edge with Attitude?

Good luck. I'm sure you will like whatever you end up with.

I have been running an EZ tow for sometime now. I like the performance and it appears to be helping with fuel mileage. One thing that concerned me is that the EGT's seem to be a bit high at times. The first time I jumped on it (set a Level 3) the egt's jumped up to 1400 for a second and than it dropped to under 900 just as quick. I am using an X-monitor, but I believe that the monitor was not working correctly. After a few months the monitor would not come on. I called BD and they told me they had a firmware up grade that needed to performed. Since than I have noticed more stable reading and not as much up and down EGT changes.
