I spoke to Edge today about my new EZ. My truck was surging at an idle with EZ at level 3. Tech said try other levels, 2 & 4, did not notice surging. The Tech was interested and is sending me out a new box and wants mine back. Mine has a build date of April 2003, I just bought it 3 days ago.

The tech also said that the new box coming will be changing injection pulse lengh and timing and is expected to reatil approx the $650. oo range. He also said it is still a couple months out... . That was as of today, 11-10-03

First dealings with EDGE and so far impressed with customer service.

TST is also working on a timing and duration box. Their philosophy is "no pressure increases". From talking with Mark Chapel, he is too close to pressure related failures of the Bosch HPCR.

did the guy from edge say what number increases they are claiming yet?? IMHO i know if i was offered the new box to just use id probably do it but the bugs of the new box just came to mind a scared me... think about it

I share the same heasitancy. Even if you get to use a box for test purposes, be careful what that might mean particularly if you don't have the resources to clear engine codes. For example the Bully Dog timing/pressure box is reported to set a crank position sensor code under certain conditions, and that one has been available to the public for some time now. TST is about to release a timing/duration box but won't do so until they nail the engine codes issue that seems to plauge all the major boxes that do either timing and/or duration. If you read between the lines, Edge (timing/duration/pressure box) must certainly be facing the same thing so it will be very interesting to see not only who wins the intro race, but who also wins the reliability contest. I know I don't want no stinkin codes.

They are sending me a replacement EDGE EZ, because mine makes the idle surge, not the new box. . Just a clarification... .

Iv'e had a poweredge E. Z. box for

about a month now and it surges on

every level . It's more evident when

engine is cold. but still noticeable with

warm engine. I don't think a new box will

help!

Can this surging be harmful?

Do not know. now truck seems to missing on level 2, rough idle, truck shakes, fine when driving ?????? I guess I have to wait for new box. I do not want to disconnect and drive because of the elbow, but may have to... .

Just got the new warranty Edge EZ today. Will be going out to test soon. Tjhis new box was made 11-06-2003 according to the sticker on the bottom..... Will let you all know

Surging: Box or Truck?

Guys, those with drivability surging may actually have more to do with your truck than the box.

Ever since new my power delivery per throttle position has never been perfectly linear, ie, when I step on it it accellerates then suddenly backs off once a specific RPM is reached, and this is greatly amplified by my Bully Box (and the EZ I tried today). Quite annoying I must say. I think any electrical/ECM imperfections that cause less than perfect driveability are magnified because these power boxes simply magnify what the system is doing.

The EZ I tried out today caused an erratic surge at idle on my truck for about a minute after startup then smoothed out.

Vaughn

Vaughn,

Have you reset your throttle range end to end?

Many people have reset theirs and gotten a more linear range from min to max.

The replacement (warranty) box seems much better. I have it currently on "3", but I will be changing to "2" It just spins the tires too much on "3". . I do not want that much when I get on snowy roads with a trailer..... The Idle seems much smoother with the new box..... hanks Edge for the quick response with a new box... Great customer service... .

Just put the EZ on my wife's Ram a couple weeks ago and get the surge just as Vaughn described. It was slightly noticable on cruise without EZ, much more annoying with EZ on cruise (allthough the wife doesn't seem to notice either way  ). Also get the initial short rough idle when cold starting. I would be real interested to here more of Ron W's idea or a link as to which thread it was talked about in.

It's easy to reset the range of the throttle, since there is no direct cable connection to the injection pump the computer uses a range of resisitance from low to high as you move the pedal full range top to bottom.

Pull the battery connections and let the truck sit for 1/2 hour or so, then re-connect cables, put key in ignition and turn key till guage lights cycle (don't start enging) then just depress gas pedal slowly completely to floor. That's it

Whether that's what your problem is I don't know but it's worth a shot.
