K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit

Had to take the truck in for State emissions testing last week. They put it on a Dyno and take opacity readings at 60, 50 and 40 mph. I've got an EZ on it, so before the test I moved the jumper to position #1- supposed to be timing only. I usually run on pin #2, and it smokes like a locomotive going thru the gears--it's the altitude (6800') around here.

After passing the test, the guy asked if I had a 'chip' on the engine. Why? Because it showed 253HP on the Dyno, and he doesn't see that with other 24 valve engines. Also, I notice that even on pin #1, I can puff black smoke when pounding thru the gears. This is supposed to be timing only, right?

So here's the questions-

Why the increased HP when only on pin #1

Why the smoke puffs when working up thru the gears on pin #1?

Is my EZ box broke?

Because on #1 you still have increased fueling when above 20 PSIG. Pin position doesn't affect peak BHP, only the boost level at which increased fueling kicks in.

Why the smoke puffs when working up thru the gears on pin #1?

Because, unlike the stock settings, the EZ lets the fuel get ahead of the boost on a shift. The smoke clears up as soon as the boost comes up, right?

Is my EZ box broke?

Sounds like it's working fine to me!
