Had to take the truck in for State emissions testing last week. They put it on a Dyno and take opacity readings at 60, 50 and 40 mph. I've got an EZ on it, so before the test I moved the jumper to position #1- supposed to be timing only. I usually run on pin #2, and it smokes like a locomotive going thru the gears--it's the altitude (6800') around here.
After passing the test, the guy asked if I had a 'chip' on the engine. Why? Because it showed 253HP on the Dyno, and he doesn't see that with other 24 valve engines. Also, I notice that even on pin #1, I can puff black smoke when pounding thru the gears. This is supposed to be timing only, right?
So here's the questions-
Why the increased HP when only on pin #1
Why the smoke puffs when working up thru the gears on pin #1?
Is my EZ box broke?
