Does anyone really know the differences in these 2 products?

Specifically, could I run a Turbo-Master with the Puck without setting engine codes?

I've asked this question of both Diablo and Edge and neither has bothered to reply. Great customer relations, eh?

At a recent dyno day.........

We unplugged my EZ and left the map portion on to act as a boost fooler. I know it plugged into a different area than the EZ. Anyway it dynoed 10 HP less than the EZ. And yes I do believe you have to have a separate boost fooler. The Power Puck is programmable although I think you have to have the software and adapter to do it.

I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm wrong about the boost fooler.

I am 'lost" with your reply about unplugging your EZ, etc..... ???

And after waiting a week, I still have received no reply from either Edge or Diablo... ... . maybe they don't know either!

Anyone else have any experience in this matter?

2 connections......

On the EZ there are two points that need connection. One goes to the MAP sensor, this is the boost fooler. The other goes to the data link. When we tried the Puck we unhooked the data link and left the MAP hooked up. This is why I believe the Puck does not have a boost fooler.

The Puck hooked to a completely different place on the truck. It did not go where we removed the EZ data link. I'm not sure what that connector was called but it did have a "tamper seal" on it.

Why not call Edge or diablo, you'll get your answer in five second, from the horse mouth.

OK..... today I tried calling the main Diablosport distributor and after yakking for about 10 minutes, they admitted they did not think the puck has a boost fooler built in. Then I called the Diablo-

sport headquarters/factory and got transferred to 3 different guys and was on long distance for almost 30 minutes (so much for the 5 second answer theory!). The factory sales mgr was the highest guy willing to talk to me, but he is sure the newest Puck(for '01 and newer) has a boost fooler in it because it hooks to the MAP sensor (as well as the data link port) and "they have been seeing trucks with bigger injectors hitting 25-30psi boost without setting engine codes".

So, now after all the phone time, I am thinking that I will go ahead and install the Turbo-Master with my Puck and set the boost at 25-27psi and see what happens. Question: if engine codes are set, then what do I do?

Damn! You would think they would their products better than that!!  I don't caryy Diablo so I didn't have a clue. Sorry the phone call turn into an ordeal. You would expext a five sec answer from the manufacturer, it's not like you were asking for the software codes!

If you set a code, sometimes they clear by just un-hooking the batteries for about 30 min. If that don't do it, you can always limp it to an autozone, they have the tool to read/clear the codes and do it for free.

Thanks, Glenn.

I just tried sending another email to the Diablosport techie guys, so perhaps I will get a more definitive answer... that is IF I get an answer.

Yes, you would think their customer service folks would be more helpful. Right now I am wishing I would have bought an Edge EZ instead of the Diablo Puck, at least I know the EZ has a boost fooler built in it. When I bought the puck, the programmable feature was a big selling point to me because I knew I would eventually be changing and adding things, but in retro-spect... it means nothing when no one locally has the software or the know how to program the darn things.

Makes the EZ sound better all the time!

I'm hoping to make it to May Madness, perhaps someone there will know more than me(won't take much!) about this issue, or perhaps I will finally get an answer from Diablo and I can pass the info along to anyone else who is interested.

Looking at the install instructions on the Diablo home page I see no mention of hooking any thing to the map sensor so I am going to say that the puck does not have a boost fooler in it. If you run your boost to 27 you will probably set a code and actually loose power (because the ecm will defuel past 21 psi).

Good luck and if you need a boost fooler look in the classifieds and ask around. There is almost always one used one for sale.

The Diablosport web site is where a lot of confusion starts... ...

The old style puck which is all they show on their web page connects directly to the injection pump and the ECM. The newest puck, for '01 and '02, hooks to the MAP sensor and the data link port(but this is not shown on their web page). They supposedly changed the hook up to the MAP sensor so they could hide increased boost... ... at least that is what they 'sort of' told me when I talked to them... . none of them seemed to know much about their own product... . wish I could have spoken to one of their engineers.

I could use a bit more education myself regarding fuel needs... . if I increase the boost pressure to approx. 25psi, will the puck/EZ or such boxes increase fueling to meet the demand... or do I need to buy something more? I have been operating under the assumption that my box would take care of any changing fuel requirements that might be brought about by increasing my boost pressure... . ????

All replies appreciated!

Just the opposite.........

Your fueling will increase boost. From the factory the boost is set just over 20 PSI, slightly higher for the HO's. It takes pretty good loads to drive it over that with stock fueling anyway. Once you add more fuel via the boxes you will be able to make more boost. Without disabling the waste gate the two boxes your mentioning will not have enough fueling for you to get into danger anyway. By allowing more boost to be built you'll have a little better power and a little better control of EGT's.
